I have been having more fun than I imagined with my new freezedrier. I have a number of projects to tell you about and I'm starting with the apples. The Gala apple is one of my favorite fresh apples to eat. I found some nice ones and couldn't wait to get them on the freezedry machine (plus we ate a bunch fresh:). I have since done 2 more batches as the grandkids love these freezedried slices of apple, with or without the cinnamon, as much as they do the freezedried yogurt! My grand daughter takes a bag with her to her figure skating competitions and lessons for snacks and energy. I have also thrown some into the blender, and made powdered apples. So far I have used them in pancakes and all sorts of batters, as well as discovered how easy it is to whip up apple sauce in a jiff. Everything I tried with powder, I also mixed in with half of batters and whatever, as crumbled apples which worked great. The power of flavor from freezedried fruit is amazing and easy to incorporate into any menu. Here's a photo of the fresh and then the freezedried apples.
