Winter is here and cold/flu season is back. One of the most helpful tips I got for dealing with it is a simple tea that you can make fresh at home.
First, get fresh ginger. I like to get organic, because why pay less for food when you can pay more for something that is probably wrongly marked to increase profits for the wholesaler? Kroger has ginger. If you use it often for cooking and such, Costco has a great deal on it: ~$6 for 2lbs or so.
Peel the ginger and grate into a cup using a cheese grater, the finer the better as it releases more of the ginger juice.
Then cut a slice of fresh lemon and squeeze into the cup. You can substitute lemon juice from the little bottles if you don't want to keep fresh lemons around.
Add hot water, then let it sit and steep for 3-5 minutes.
If you would like, you can also add raw organic honey for taste.
