The Spicy Indian #21 - Kalakand (A Popular Indian Sweet)

Hey guys! How are you all?


Today I want to introduce you all to a really popular sweet here in India and something that is my personal favorite too. It is called Kalakand, and once you have it, you simply can’t resist trying to have more.

Kalakand found its origins in northern India, and today it is popular throughout the country, no matter where you go. Not only that, chances are, if you visit an Indian sweet shop in other countries, you will most likely find it there too.


Today, I want to show you guys how to make this sweet dish without taking up too much of your time and effort. As with any other recipes, the key to quick, tasty preparation of delicious food is using the right ingredients and in the right proportions. So, make sure you do just that while preparing Kalakand as well. One other thing that you should keep in mind is to use some deep plates to be able to make some thicker pieces of this sweet.



How to make Kalakand

Cooking Time: 15 mins
Setting Time: 3 hours
Total Time: 3 hours 17mins


INGREDIENTS



  • Grated fresh cottage cheese- 2 1/4 cups
  • Milk powder- 1 1/2 cups
  • Fresh cream- 1 1/2 cups
  • Sugar- 3/4 cup
  • Cardamom powder- 1/2 tbsp


For The Garnishing


  • Almond Slivers- 1 tbsp
  • Pistachio slivers- 1 tbsp



METHOD



1. Mix all the ingredients, except the cardamom powder, in a broad pan and mix it well. Cook it on a low flame till the mixture thickens and starts leaving the sides of the pan with continuous stirring.

2. Now turn off the flame and add the cardamom powder and mix it well. Transfer this mixture to a greased tray and spread it evenly.

3. Garnish this mixture with chopped almond and pistachio slivers and Keep it aside and allow it to cool for 3 hours.

4. Cut this mixture into square pieces and serve it immediately or serve chilled.
