Well our body cells burn Glucose, so I don't really consider all sugars to be a problem. I appreciate that a ketogenic diet puts the cells in a non Glucose burning state - but I don't have experience of that. Fruits are clearly intended foods for humans, for example, and they are obviously quite high in natural sugars.

True enough but fruits still contain all of their natural fibers and the breakdown of the sugars in fruits takes place in the duodenum not in the stomach therefore bypassing the initial first pass of the liver. Simple sugars such as those found in honey and maple syrup are processed the same as any other sugar.
