With modern technology making life easier and easier every day, there is very little you can’t get to come to your house for you while you wait semi-patiently in your pajamas. Back in the old days you had to look up the number of the specific restaurant you wanted food from, actually call them, and place an order. Then a few websites (starting with Pizza-Hut, as far as I can remember) started throwing up websites, and trying their darndest to allow online ordering.
Then came the iPhone and the smartphone revolution. And everything went app based. But Jesus Mary and Joseph did that start to get tiresome. Pepsi Summer App… G&E Cereal Rewards, and of course, Pizza-Hut were the early adopters. But how many individual restaurant apps can you download (and then scroll page after page thru?)
And then the world turned again.
Seamless beget Grubhub beget Yelp Eat 24 beget Post Mates beget UberEats beget Doordash.
And life finally started to make sense. Pick your service, compromise your tastes to the restaurants they’ve signed with, and order away. They all have their quirks, but the song remains the same. Open the app, pick your food, take a poop, food arrives.
But WHY THEN WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY can’t they do the one simple thing: bring the food to your door without a phone call.
There are more articles than any person could stomach about how much millennials suck, but the one common denominator they get right, is that millennials aren’t good at IRL P2P interaction.
Everytime I’ve ordered from any of these services, I wait and wait and wait, and then my phone rings. Then, a stranger tells me this, “I’m from [insert app based food] and I’m outside with your food.” And then inevitably I open the door and they are ten feet up the sidewalk looking at the door and waving. Or their still in their fucking car.
No knock. No door bell. No pimpled teenager standing on my porch while I put on pants and shush my dog.
But why tho?
Why can’t they just arrive, come to the door and knock?
I mean, it’s bananas, and no one seems to notice. Delivery isn’t delivered unless it gets to your door. It’s always been that way, and it’ll always be that way. So where is the disconnect? Why can’t these millennials just get out of their car, and bring the food to me, so I don’t have to “walk of shame” my bare feet and boxers out into the damn dirty street.
Am I right?
Or does it creep you out when someone knocks on your door?
Millennials hardly even answer the phone anymore, and yet we have to go through this extra step just to get our chicken wings?
But you tell me.
Thoughts?

What worries me about this is that technology instead of spending its economic resources on really important things, they are doing things for the man making it more useless
I hear you. You're saying I should put on some shoes and actually leave my house to get food, so the tech wizards can solve the ocean garbage problem.
But what if I can't find my shoes, and the movie on Netflix isn't over yet?!?!
yes technology make life very ease day by day this good sign but it has also some disadvantage
But I want it to be perfect. You know, like why isn't it just perfect all the time? hahaha
It's unfortunate that the 'last mile/steps' service experience dampens the overall convenience of food deliveries. There are probably behavioural as well as economic reasons for this. The fact that other clients accept this behaviour and fail to complain has led them to modify the norm. The demand for food deliveries has increased significantly to the point that deliverers need to be more productive and avoid 'time-wasting' activities to get all their deliveries done in the time that they have to maximise their earnings.
I know, it really is crazy how the final 3 percent of the experience, can tarnish the whole. It occasionally can make me feel petty, but follow through is important. Just finish the job!
Modern technology is also good for mankind but with the modern man become useless they do not make effort to do anything. It make the peoples lazy.
This app is also good because some we can't go to shop or we have any emergency at that time we can order the pizza from our house.
Thanks dear @writesbackwards to share your thought with us
I think its nice because sometime we need it immediately then we have a option to use this app.
Thank you very much @writesbackwards to share this app with us
Seriously, bring me my cheesy-bread right now!
hmmm
I think people are afraid of getting shot now a days. Best to give you a heads-up that they are on their way so you can put your rocket launcher down and extinguish your flame thrower. You guys give up? Or are you thirsty for more?
Yeah, but really, who's shooting the food delivery guy? I mean that is the LAST person I'm gonna draw on. I already paid for the food in the app, so I don't even need to stick the guy up to get some free cheese sticks. You know?
How sweet food

I know the feeling. I like in a place off the main road, and when they put my address in the phone, the gps takes them only to the main road, and nobody can find how to get to my house. I ALWAYS have to walk out to the main road to get my phone, which is really annoying.
like i want to walk outside in my pjs, and slippers to the main road just to pick up my food. that degrades the whole point of me ordering and getting it to my door like they advertise. So I just don't order food online. I just go to the grocery store and make food at my house.
You can't give up! What if you made a sign and put it by the main road, that just said, "You're almost there. Bring me my cheesybread so I can stay in my slippers!"
That could help, and then you don't have to risk burning your house down, making chicken fried rice!
We should totally build pipelines connecting restaurants to our houses. That's the future of delivery.
The girl who commented right now is right, the technology is being misused and managed. should be lent for things that really help humanity
I understand the sentiment for sure, but not everyone that has the talent to develop an app, has the ability to develop a world changing solution. These app's solve the "I need a sandwich right now" problem, but that's not gonna cure cancer. What I love though is that since the tech is there, hopefully SOMEONE will be able to do bigger things!
