Last few days I was experiencing unusual heartburn - not even that but unusual burning sensation in the stomach, but I had no red peppers or anything with the capsaicin or anything remotely similar to any chili peppers. I stopped eating them 3 months ago, as they are also in a group of food that cause me health issues.
I can easily eat them boiled and peeled, I just need to avoid hard parts.
The only thing I was using is black pepper, and that is in boiled potatoes and on fried meat, but that quantity shouldn't cause me issues. I already started to worry if I am about to get another relapse and end up in the hospital for no reason... but then I figured out what is a problem.
Black pepper is fueled with many beneficial compounds, it actually promotes stomach health, but unfortunately it can also cause a heartburn - but this one is rather strange.
Black pepper is not alone in this category. Common heartburn triggers include various spicy food such as :
- alcohol, particularly red wine
- black pepper, garlic, raw onions, and other spicy foods
- chocolate
- citrus fruits and products, such as lemons, oranges and orange juice
- coffee and caffeinated drinks, including tea and soda
- peppermint
- tomatoes
