Our lunch for today is Agud. That is what we call the fruit of a malunggay or Moringa tree. The fruits are long and covered with thick skin. It takes time to remove the skin but you can find those that are pre packed and cut like the ones on this photo. You can find Moringa trees on most backyards but nowadays it is getting quite rare. So sad to see that maybe because the people are not aware of the great benefits of a moringa tree, its fruit and most especially its leaves.
Back in the days you can gather the fruits and leaves in your garden and if you do not have one just ask your neighbor. Today, we can no longer see them in the neighborhood so we buy them in the public market. We love the agud soup so much and even if they get pricey at times we still buy them. 3 bunches for 100 Pesos is expensive for something that is readily available in your garden. We do not mind though because this is our favorite. Not to mention the health benefits.
I took this quick snap while my mom is preparing all the ingredients. There is the agud which is the green thing on the silver container. Some tomatoes and sweet potatoes. These are the typical ingredients to make the agud soup. For the meat, usually we use shrimps but my brother is allergic to shrimps so we use this canned chicken meat. I can't wait to eat.
