... Very much later in life. This is because at some stage in life, one may not understand the reasons behind some rules and regulations. At a time, those rules becomes 'unnecessary restrictions' based on our perception then.
Take for instance, when some parents put up a rule that the children must be home before 7p.m. each day. To the adolescents in the home, such rule may be harsh at that moment. Later in years when such individual becomes an adult and realises that most crimes and accidents happen during the nights, the person will appreciate the parent's rule earlier in life.
Relating the above scenario to my high school days when we were taught as a subject then, 'Home Economics', I didn't really appreciate it very much then but life and my mom made it a 'no option' case, and that has helped me in managing my own matrimonial home today.
