Mexican Food in Korea

in #foodphotography7 years ago

I am an avid Deadpool fan, and if you read the title of course you know, this is not going to be some kind of Deadpool 2 movie review. What this is going to be about is something Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds, and I all love, East Asia and Mexican food! However, the irony is that Mexican food is allusive as elusive in Korea as finding a redhead. Not sure if that comparison makes much sense, but I am going to roll with it.

I'm going to post these photos if I can remember the names of the places I will include them, but keep in mind some of these photos are from months ago before I started to do this blog, so I didn't pay much attention to names and places.

First Mexican Place

Address: 35 Gangnam-daero 162-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul

At this point, I had been in Korea for almost two months and had not had Mexican food at that time. So, my friend decided to take me to this place to eat. Cannot remember the name at all, it is on the napkin, and I was trying to find it but even looking at the address on my phone, a restaurant doesn't exist there on either Google or Naver maps. So, all I can give you in the physical address for this place. Regardless, I remember that it was pretty good and scratched my itch, for a time...

Taco Amigo

Address: 130-34 Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

If you want the best kind of Mexican food in Seoul, the one place you need to go is Itaewon. There are a ton of foreign food places to scratch hometown food you want. So, what you see below is my breakfast for a champion after Thanksgiving dinner/ let's all drink a ton because we haven't seen each other in a minute.

A Place in Daejeon

I don't even have an address for you all on this one. I took the photo through an app, so it didn't record the physical location of the place. Searching the maps, I also don't see any places that fit the photo. It was near 충남대학교 (Choongnam University). It is a little disappointing because this was one of the surprisingly good places I have been to. Like, for outside of Seoul especially it was good!

God Eat

Address: 48-7 Songpa-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul

Now this place was a little gold star I wasn't expecting much like the place in Dajeon. The friend I met for the first Mexican place saw that this place just opened and wanted to try it with me. Glad she did, and the wait time for a table was well worth it. I also did a good deal of drinking the night before this so waiting made it even more worth it. The price was a bit higher for this place, but you get what you pay for. The chips were made in-house, and everything came out fresh. The nacho cheese was a bit of a letdown, but aside from that, this place was easily second best in my opinion.

34344530_1919966464702521_6186213238070312960_n.jpg I believe that this was supposed to be a beef fajita bowl... I can't remember exactly on this one.

Gusto Taco

159-7 Seogang-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Now, this was my personal pick when I went to see a friend for her birthday. For a full review you can check out my post here. This restaurant was my favorite place out of all of them.

20180421_172528.jpg Pork Tacos, some of the best-pulled pork I have had here!

Tequilaz

Address: 121 Geum-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju

Tequilaz is the closest Mexican place to me, and I have had mixed experiences coming here. The first time I ate here, I had a pork enchilada, and it was just alright. The meat was somewhat bland, and the cheese was made in-house, but you can tell that it was broken because of the grittiness to it, it was pretty off-putting.

34560303_1919941224705045_7184717057634598912_n.jpg The Enchilada

I told my experience to someone, and they said me they have two different cooks there, one that cares and one that doesn't. So, when I decided to give it another go, it was much better. I had a beef chimichanga, and it was correctly seasoned and the cheese was better and smooth, the plate presentation here is lacking though, to be honest. But, overall, not the best by far, but there are not many other options in Gwangju. So, go at your risk, and hopefully, you have the cook that can cook.

But that's what I mean about presentation; it shouldn't be minced like this, you are losing flavor cutting it up that small and creating more work for yourself...

Random Place

산32-2 Sage-ri, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju-do

This was just a cafe that happened to sell burritos on Jeju. So, I got one. It was like a fusion style kind of thing. Korean beef burrito. It wasn't bad at all, just small and a little sweet. It is for sure the smallest one here lol

Churros!!

Any big festival or significant downtown area sells churros. I don't know why Korea has a fascination with these fried little pastries, but I won't argue with them, they are fantastic!

It looked good, my wife and I went out for mexican last night, Pretty good food, we have visited it a few times, I like their enchiladas and taco salads.

Nice, I usually go for a chimichanga or fajita myself.

Oh my god, so many yummy food you did try before. ...@@

Someday I hope to find a good Korean Mexican fusion restaurant :)

Nothing like some good mexican and looks like you have a solid variety there!

Have you seen Deadpool 2 yet!? What are your thoughts!

It still does not compare to back home though lol
I liked the story that it told. The one thing that bugged me was how much it referenced the first movie like it was scared to try a different framing device and made me feel like it couldn't stand on its own as one film.

Wow Bike, your posts are on a new level now my friend. So much attention to detail. The first beef enchilada looked so good my stomach actually rumbled and im in Texas right now so I could go have actual mexican food but i dont know if even that would look as appetizing as your pic. Also you have now made me add "try a korean beef burrito" to my bucket list. Keep up the awesome work man!!

OH damn, it has been a while to you post man! Thanks, I have been working on this blog pretty hard for the past couple of months. That is the nice thing about Korea, the plate presentation is so important here. I did some reading in the past and that is an idea from China about food that they share. If it looks good, it must be good for the body, along with having many colors in the food.

I also think, if I am not mistaken there is a Korean American chef that has a food truck in Texas that does Korean tacos. I would kill to try his cooking!

I can tell your making great progress brother. I diversified my social media presence. So ive bewn writing of other platforms as well but decided to include steemit in my publishing circle. Ive been focussing a lot on my voice acting lately and just started casting roles for a show im doing on YouTube. I made a post on here for the open auditions a few days ago but it went unseen. If you dont mind would you resteem ot so it can get more exposure? Its beyond the payout I believe, I only want to get more auditions lined up. So far I have just over 50 but I'd like lots more to choose from if possible.
