This is called a boodle fight meal. It simply means that you have to get rid off any cutlery and dishes and just use your bare hands in eating. This is a popular Filipino Military eating tradition that has been adopted by a lot of filipinos on simple gatherings. A stack of food are served on a table covered with banana leaves. It may look unpleasant to an unfamiliar guest, but its actually fun eating standing up shoulder to shoulder with your family or friends. Of course, washing your hands is a must before eating or get kicked out. You need to grab as much food as you can before it runs out, thus referring to the name "fight".
This is not about being gluttonous, but you're not the only one who is hungry so being demure won't get you a full stomach. You can choose any food you like for the boodle fight, but its better to serve dry foods like what we are having in this photo, grilled, steamed or fried is the best. We love doing this when we go on a beach outing. Are you guys up for this? Bon Appetit!

That is a cool idea. I wish it would catch on over here in the States!
Thanks. I hope soon, but I’m sure you can still see this practice in some filipino communities in the US.
