Today I harvested the last of the cherry tomatoes on the dried up vine outside. They'll become some kind of relish. I need to think about it a bit more.
The sweet potato is from a vine that I planted a year ago under our bedroom window. Sweet potatoes make great gap fillers and the vines provide shade for the other plants in the garden. They also make purple flowers that birds love and the leaves are edible. They look great in hanging baskets if you don't have gardening space. To grow a sweet potato all you need to do is put a vine in some water to root and then plant your cutting when the roots are 3 inches long.
The potatoes come from a cutting that started growing in the worm bin. I'm not sure what the scale on them is from, I suspect it's from drying out. Not sure yet if I'm going to eat them.
Finally we have mint and Lemon Verbena. Both went into some cucumber water for extra flavor.
Thus my report for the day:)
What's growing in your garden?
In my garden last summer, I tried potatoes but I only got three. Yours look so healthy and yummy. I am starting my seeds soon and this will be my first year starting my garden from seeds. I look forward to more of your posts.
Potatoes are tricky to get right. Your soil has to be just right otherwise they don't want to perform.
Good luck with your garden :)
I will research how to get it right, thank you for the tip :)
I've just started gardening too!!!
Looking forward to seeing what else you're working on. :D
Yay!
wow they look so yummy ,
I am thinking of planting one soon
It's definitely worth doing. Good luck!
I will plant a bunch
Once you have a vine growing you can keep breaking off pieces and letting them root in water. Every leaf has a root node next to it on the stem.
harvest is very useful for human body. this is very good post.
The sweet potatoes looks so sweet. Can i have some? Hehehe! It was my favorite and i really love to eat sweet potato.
Hehe, Sure! These just took a year to get this size :)
How do you like to eat them?
Here in our country we cook sweet potatoes by frying it together with brown sugar. And then we also put condensed milk as a topping. And we called it "camote cue" one of the very delicious snacks here in the Philippines.
Ooh that sounds yummy!
