Pick That One Out!

in #football6 years ago (edited)

Harry Kane scored an amazing goal at the weekend. Share your favourite long range efforts here!

For all those who have been living under a rock this past week, here is Harry Kane's 93 minute winner v Juventus:

Although slightly inside the opposition half, it was still a fine goal to score late on in any game. Was the keeper at fault? Are all keepers letting goals in from that range to blame? Personally, I think the goalie has to take what blame there is when the shot comes from that far out, but many goalkeepers are seen as 'Sweeper keepers' these days and are expected to field through balls, as well as saving shots coming in from range.

There are some goals though that are scored from distance that you see and think, 'No keeper is saving that'.

And that's what I want to see in the comments section please!

I have a few to show and describe to you, and these are coming from a 40 year old Manchester United fan. No doubt there will be some bias, and erasing from memory of some great goals scored by rival teams - Stevie G at Liverpool perhaps?

Ronaldo v Porto

Quarter final of the Champions League back in 2009 and a rare visit to Portugal for Cristiano Ronaldo who is keen to perform well in-front of his countrymen. The first leg at Old Trafford was a 2-2 draw after an 89th minute equalizer from the away side, and so you felt that a good start to the second leg was essential for The Reds.

6 minutes into the tie this happened:

The goal was scored from 39.6 yards and traveled at a speed of 64.2 mph 1 right into the corner. Could you put any blame on the keeper, or was it just a cracking strike?

Ramsey v Galatasaray

Another European tie and a goal from Welshman Aaron Ramsey for Arsenal - the club he has left this summer.

To get in line for the shot, Ramsey has to run cross-field and back a little. It is hit on the half-volley with his 'weaker' foot, and curls into the top corner.

Unbelievable strike and worthy of a 'pick that one out!'

Me v Ivy Bank junior school

Sadly, no footage of this one and so you'll just have to take my word for it when I tell you I have scored from behind the halfway line in a 'competitive' match before.

It's 1988, and my form tutor has decided that he wants me to captain the school team. He's also decided that the best (tallest!) four players should be the defenders as he has little clue about football and has never really watched any of the team play.

It was frustrating playing center half, especially when all you wanted to do was kick the ball in the net but one afternoon I did just that, over the top of a (pretty damn short) keeper playing for another school. To be honest, I was just clearing the ball in the direction of the opposition goal and didn't think about scoring as the goalkeeper was standing on his line.

Unsurprisingly, the attendance was low, but I do remember my tutor shouting 'pick that one out' :D

I've realised that I could present quite a few more, but I'd rather see what others come up with. Give us a goal, I'll give you a vote :)

Cheers

Asher

LOL

What the hell is going on here? Dude's got the 'ball' in his hands and the opposition have their pants down?!

I assume he used to be a top player? Pretty decent slice on the shot though to be fair!

lol yeah, thought it was pretty cool. haha. bunch of 'all stars' or ex stars playing.

where my vote :)

30% and 10% for trying, even though wrong sport and male ass-crack on show!

Here is my favorite as the goalie had no chance.

This one was my banker to show up. Love the way the ball-boy ducks - nowhere near him in the end!

I always keep going back and watching this and have seen nothing with so much swerve on it since.

this is the best goal of all, it seems made to the playstation ... great Roberto Carlos

From the Singapore downtown to Turin :)

Sounds like a very long shot!

wayne still has it

Nice!

Not seen any of Wayne at DC and it seems he's still got it!

love this one. The fight in him. Last minute of the game

Looks like twice the player he was when he left England!

Sorry England fans, but this one is one of my all-time favorites:

I watched this game and yes, a flipping unbelievable goal!

It was actually on my list of potentials for the post but I had a feeling I'd see it today anyway, cheers!

I appreciate your reply. couldn't believe it when i first saw it (the goal!). thank you for your reply. Much appreciated!

Best wishes,

P.

No worries, nice selection :D

thanks again. Since you clearly love football and create great content, can i ask for your feedback on one of my articles? I am really wanting to improve my content (all orginal!) and its impact. your thoughts on my work would be awesome. If you dont have the time, i would fully understand though!!

Many thanks,

Here is a goal from 1991-1992 season from the one and only, the legend Gheorghe Hagi, when he was playing for Real Madrid:

A scorer of great goals with that magical left foot. Nice!

and one from a player that you would not expect to do that :D

A couple of beauties here!

Not a fan of either player, but you cant fault the skill and vision.

it was a patriotic duty to post stankovic 😁 but it is a great technical shot.
adams for me was always like he traveled in to the future, as if he should be playing in the 80es or something like that 😁

Thing is, the best goals ever scored ever, were actually by Leeds including this one in 95 for the one and only Tony Yeboah against Liverpool!

And this was Rod Wallace involved again in what is probably the greatest solo goal scored in the whole world ever in the history of football....

I remember both of those :)

Yeboah's reminds me of this one

Yeboah scored this one around that time too, could have been a week later?!

Yup that's a screamer. Rooney to be fair has scored some top class goals. Was that former Leeds players Smithy and Rio who were first to congratulate him lol ;-)

My personal favorite goal was my bicycle from the halfway line in school. Unfortunately no cameras back in those days also i wasn't trying to score just intercept a pass that would have set a player straight through the middle.

Also that Ronaldo goal is ridiculous. Hit so sweetly and with so much power.

Halfway line bicycle kick - that must have gone down in history at your school :)

Pretty unbelievable strike and still had plenty of legs left when it hit the back of the net!

It always looks good when the player means it. Just a quality strike to the corner.

Ronaldo was insane. How did he do that from that long? Wow! Nice article bro! 😁

One reason he's a more complete footballer than Messi who wouldn't be shooting from there and can't kick a ball as hard :D

Am calling📱sone Messi fans on you for saying, aside from flagging, they(we) going to locate you and give you one hell of a beating. 😁.

Ronaldo isn't any better than Messi. The GOAT fan.

Ronaldoinho vs Seaman world cup brazil ko England beauty! !!

Goalie error that one! It did come to mind today - the ball just floated and floated :)

No no world class player !!!
Having said that a donkey keeper got done by naim in Europe few seasons earlier lol

That Harry Kane goal surely was one of the best goals so far this pre season.

I'm happy that he's back now. The Spurs might have won the Champions League if he was healthy that time. That's what I feel 😀

The sub did quite well if I remember? :D
