My thoughts on the boring Chelsea-Arsenal game

in #football7 years ago

So another London derby came and passed, this time, however, without making any fuss. Here are some late thoughts on the game

1.

Chelsea took this game way too casually and ended up giving 2 points. A match which they should've easily won has now been turned out to be a confidence booster for Arsenal.

2.

Cesc Fabregas should not start in a two-man midfield. It leaves Kante with a lot more work to do, lot more balls to chase and also leaves the back three exposed. He also takes too much time on the ball and teams now are expectant of his articulate overpasses so he's not that effective against bigger teams.

3.

Ozil should do the dirty work. Football pundits in England have cried for long on the importance of doing the basics right. It was all displayed yesterday when Iwobi playing in place of Ozil made those backward runs to clear dangerous balls. This is when Ozil becomes a mere luxury and as Gary Neville pointed out, only 40+ goals a season striker should be exempt from doing the defensive work, no one else. Ozil must take a hard look at himself and question whether he provides the team more than what Iwobi did yesterday if the answer is "No", then he must start planning for a move to another club more suited to his style of play.

4.

Arsene Wenger must be praised for the unbreakable character he is. You have to give this man for trying to make things right. If only he could stop buying mediocre players and if Arsenal fans stopped giving fancy names to the aforementioned mediocre players.

5.

Just 5 games into the new season, this game will be forgotten in few days. Not much can be inferred from this game as its too early to do so. It is however really important for the likes of Chelseas and Arsenals (Liverpool and Spurs) to start munting pressure on the two Manchester clubs from early on otherwise it would just be a two-horse race.

P.S. When Chelsea play Atletico in the Champions League group stages, watching Diego Simeone and Antonio Conte battle it out on the touchline would be a sight to behold!

Good thoughts boss.

Thanks mate!

Personally hoping Fernando Torres is active for the game :)
