English Premier League 2017/18 Preview
Preview
So its that time of year again where the long wait for the premier league season is over. the summer has been fun with lots of international tournaments taking place, but nothing beats the return of domestic football, especially the premier league.
Im going to take the time to take a look at all 20 teams and discuss how i think they will get on and make my final predictions.
Arsenal
A lot of speculation during the pre season months surrounding Arsenal and mainly their transfer buisness. Big money has been spent on star man, Lacazette who could prove a vital piece in the jigsaw this season. Speculation surrounding Sanchez, Ozul and the Ox could get in the way of Arsenals pre season which started relatively well winning the Community Shield on sunday.
Arsenal will want to improve on a dissapointing season last year finishing outside of the top 4 for the fist time in many years. playing on a thursday night in the Europa League could prove a challenge for Arsenal meaning a lot of Sunday Premier league games but it was proven last year it can be done.
Key Player
Alexis Sanchez
If Sanchez stays and plays, Arsenal will be in for a good season, with his goals and creativity, could provide the goals needed to challenge for top 4.
My Prediction
6th
Bournemouth
Bounemouth had a very good year last year resulting in the highest finish in their history. this was a result of goals from Josh King and the likes of Loanee Nathan Ake at full back providing assists from the back. Some top signings this year with the likes of Defoe and Ake coming in on a permanent deal could help again this season.
Bournemouth will be looking to keep premier league status and look to start building and becoming a stable premier league team, but this could be a tough year with a lot of money spent in the rest of the League.
Key Player
Jermain Defoe
the natural goal scoring ability's of Defoe could help Bournemouth score another goals to steal a few points in the big games and could help with their chances of staying up.
My Prediction
17th
Brighton and Hove Albion
A historic year for Brighton with this year being their first ever in the Premier League. For the fans, this is what dreams are made off but this could be a very tough year for the team. A few signings have been made but nothing that takes your eye straight away.
It will be an interesting year for Brighton, one im sure all football fans are looking forward too, but i feel this could be very tough and a long year for the players.
Key Player
Anthony Knockheart
The stand out player last season during the promotion winning team, goals and assists could be important. A fans favourite could help boost the crowds confidence.
My Prediction
20th
Burnley
A tough year last year for Burnley but managed to hit the magic 40 points to stay in the premier league. Defensively could have issues this season even with the likes of Tom Heaton in goal. Burnley will rely on the goals from Vokes and Barnes again which does not seem strong enough for the premier league.
Key Player
Steven Defour
Defours experience at club and international level could prove important and leadership ability's may help the inexperienced players this year.
My Prediction
15th
Chelsea
Reigning champions Chelsea look to try and win the league for the second year running but will have more of a test this year. Club captain Terry has left the club however Cahill who is new captain for the team also has the same leadership abilities.
Some big money signings have strengthened the squad but the Costa drama could provide vital unless Morata or Batshuayai can provide the goals.
Key Player
Eden Hazard
Back to his best last season, Hazard had the world class ability to win any game if he plays well. His role may be bigger this year with the likes of Costa not playing no more for Chelsea.
My Prediction
2nd
Crystal Palace
The great escape was done last year having to leave it till the last few weeks to secure their place in the premier league again. Too many loses last year and not enough points in tight games meant they were down towards the bottom end of the table.
No real ins or outs this year either means the team has not strengthens since last year. If anything this could prove to be a tougher season.
Key Player
Wilifried Zaha
Attacking flair and ability could prove to be important this year, and will be down to Zaha whether they stay up or not.
My Prediction
18th
Everton
After another season competing for European positions, Everton have had a busy pre season in the transfer market. Selling Lukaku for big money has given the club plenty of money to invest heavily, which they have done. Pickford and Keane provide strength at the back and rumours of Sigurdsson coming to club mean they could potentially be the big shock in the top 4 this year.
Key Player
Ross Barkley
A player who has been about for a while now and has dipped his toes in to his potential but never really achieved it. This could be the year we see Barkley at his best and could play a big part in the middle of the park.
My Prediction
7th
Huddesfield Town
A shock last season to see Huddesfield promoted to the premier league but a fairly steady transfer window means they might have a small chance this year of staying up.
A few crucial signings made like tom Ince and Depoitre could help with the attacking side of the game but defensively not so strong and against the likes of the top teams, could be tough.
Key Players
Nahki wells
The goals from Wells could be important and is not proven at top level so will want to show what he is made off.
My Prediction
19th
Leicester City
The likes of the title winning season we may never see again, but that season certainly stabilised a big club. After a steady season last season battling with European football also was a good result in the end. They will look to push on this season now they don't have the mid week travel to battle with.
Some big money spent this year taking Maguire and Ihennacho from Man City could show the rest of the league that they mean buisness and want to prove it was not a once in a lifetime season 2 years ago.
Key Player
Danny Drinkwater
His physical presence in midfield and his ability to find a pass coul;d help the pace up front with quality service.
My Prediction
9th
Liverpool
After a very good season breaking into the top 4 and gaining Champions League football again, liverpool are looking to push for the title by brining in some top class players. Salah could prove to be a quality signing after impressing in Italy last year.
A big part of the season could be depndant on keeping hold of Coutinho. if barcelona sign the wanted star, then it leaves a massive whole in the team.
Key Player
Mohamed Salah
Goals and attack minded wing play could help with the goalscoring within the team which could prove enough for Liverpool this year.
My Prediction
5th
Manchester City
Attacking will be the main trait this year for Man City and a lot of clubs will have to really be on top of there game if they want to keep a clean sheet against them. They have not been scared to spend big money this year strengthening there team.
Most peoples tips to win the league this year will push them to try and achieve this along with European success. With Walker, Mendy and Danilo coming into the team, there squad has gone from world class to nearly unstoppable.
Key Player
Kevin De Bruyne
Not his best season last year but still topped a lot of the stats charts. De Bruyne will want to be back on top of his game and be competing with the very best in world football.
My Prediction
1st
Manchester United
Some will say united had a very average season last year, but after winning 3 trophies and regaining champions league football, they wont be to sad about that. They will however be looking to improve again and be challenging for the title once again.
Lots of money spent and some clever signings by Mouriniho means they will be in the thick of it come the business end of the season. Lukaku and Matic bring Premier League experience and with a few more rumoured to be joining, this could be a good year.
Key Player
Romelu Lukaku
Plenty of goals last year in an average Everton team should mean for more goals in a strong United team.
My Prediction
4th
Newcastle United
back in the big time where they belong, Newcastle have strengthened since winning the championship last term, and look to push up the leagues back to where they were a few years back.
A lot of the deadwood have been let go freeing up space for more squad players who could do something this season.
Key Player
Jacob Murphy
signed for his boyhood team in pre season, has proved and youth level for his country how good he can be and has massive potential. Goals are part of his game and could support Gayle up top.
My Prediction
11th
Southampton
Southampton had a good year last season, topping the mini league below the top 7 clubs. They will look to try and progress a little more and push for a European spot.
A quiet transfer market so far but rumours of some money being spent before the close of the window.
Key Player
Nathan Redmond
Made his full senior England debut this year and looks to get better like he has each season. A p[layer with flair who likes to get on the ball.
My Prediction
8th
Stoke City
Stoke continue to establish themselves as a secure premier league finishing mid table year in year out. No money spent but some good loan signings.
Defensively Stoke are always very good and with Zouma joining, this could make it very hard for teams to score many goals past them.
Key Player
Xherdan Shaqiri
Has proved he has the world class ability to win matches for stoke just needs to improve his consistency. This could be his year to impress.
My prediction
14th
Swansea
Will want to improve on last season being stuck in a relgation battle. Swansea have had a good time in the Premier League and will want this to continue.
A very quiet transfer market so far and no real improvements on the team could mean another tough season.
Key Player
Gylifi Sigurdsson
if he stays, he will be the star man in the team, and the one who will loo pull the strings at the club. The big part of this is if he stays.
My Prediction
16th
Tottenham Hotspur
Pushed Chelsea to the end last year and will likely do the same again this season. Having to play at Wembley during all home games could prove tough but something the team will look to relish in.
Money received from Walker will be invested in more signings no doubt and being able to keep hold of Dier, Kane and Alli will prove important.
Key Player
Harry kane
Looking to be top scorer for the 3rd season on the trot and looking to hit the magic 30 league goals, something that is easily achievable for Kane
My Prediction
3rd
Watford
Watford toyed with relegation last season, they will want to perform better like they know they can do. they have been busy in the transfer market bringing in some real talent which could easily help them move up the league.
key player
Troy Deeney
Physical presence up top and ability to score goals important for Watford this year.
My Prediction
13th
West Brom
West Brom are renown for being the consistent average team. Always around the middle of the table. Dont ever spend big but get the job done. Could be the same this season.
They have made a good signing in Rodriguez but cannot see them being too entertaining this year.
Key Player
Matt Phillips
A good year last tear and will no doubt be at the front of their attacking again this year.
My Prediction
12th
West Ham
Not the best years last year by West Ham a lot of people putting it down to the new stadium change. Bilic has really shown his intentions for this year with some of the signings made and could be an exciting year for West Ham.
Key Player
Javier Hernandez
Goals, goals, goals is what Hernandez is all about and will bring goals to the west Ham team.
My Prediction
10th
