Tottenham impressed again and eased their way into the last 16 of the Champions League after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in Germany last night.
Dortmund took the lead on the half hour mark through Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, as Dortmund went in search of a much needed win.
Tottenham hit back in the second half, however, as goals from Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son gave Spurs another Champions League victory.
Harry Kane helped fire Spurs into the Round of 16
Even though Real MAdrdi beat APOEL 6-0, Spurs’ win means they secure top spot in Group H, and, therefore, a better chance at an easier tie in the Round of 16.
Mauricio Pochettino made four changes from the side that lost to Arsenal, but it seemed the lacklustre performance on Sunday had filtered its way through the squad.
Dortmund were the better team in the opening exchanges, and could have scored on the quarter hour. Andriy Yarmolenko's floated pass released Aubameyang through on goal, but with just the keeper to beat, fired wide.
Harry Kane equalizes for Spurs
The Frenchman made no mistake with his second chance, however. Just 15 minutes later, the same two players combined again. This time, Yarmolenko played a delicate back-heel through to Aubameyang, who fired low past Lloris to hand the Germans the lead, and handed them a lifeline of qualifying for the knock-out stages.
Spurs are made of sterner stuff this season, however, and could have had a couple before the break. Christian Eriksen's had a shot blocked after an excellent Rose cutback and then, moments later, Dortmund leeper Roman Burki denied an Eric Dier header with a beautiful save.
Just after the restart Spurs were level. Harry Kane as sharp as ever, got the ball on the edge of the area, made a bit of space for himself and he guided the ball into the net from about 18 yards. It was Kane’s 16th goal in 14 games for Spurs this season.
Son secured Tottenham's place in the next round
Tottenham began to up the pressure, and went in search of the winning goal they knew would secure top spot. And with about 15 minutes remaining, their hard work was paid off.
Dele Alli danced between two defenders ran through and into the area before squaring the ball to Son. The Korean took one touch before ramming the ball into the top corner, to leave the Dortmund keeper with no chance.
Tottenham could have had a couple more, but misses from Eriksen and Llorente fluffed their lines, but it mattered none, as Spurs held out for an impressive win in Dortmund.
Mauricio Pochettino is delighted with his team's progress
The victory proved Mauricio Pochettino's men had really come of age in Europe, and after the match the Argentine was delighted with his team’s progress. "(Last season), we were watching the draw and we thought: 'Oh Monaco, Leverkusen and CSKA' and we thought we had a chance to go to the next stage," said Pochettino. "Then this draw we looked between us and thought: 'OK we are going to compete and we say nothing' - and look now we are first, top of the table."
And now everyone is starting to take Tottenham serious. Could it be the year they finally win Europe’s top prize. Few would bet against them.

@steemsport i lik sports v nice post you r a great
I expected Dortmund to win the game. They had the best first half and home advantage. However Spurs had the staying power to surprise many in the second half. Great reporting there and good you shared.
I think Spurs are potential winners this season. Manchester City, Spurs or Barcelona are looking the best.
In my opinion They will see last 4.
I still don't see Tottenham as a "top echelon" contender with teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and even Juventus though. Quarter finals at best if they have a favorable draw.
lol I opened this account because i thought we will play here on steemit and internet :D
