Remember Freddy Adu? I actually can't believe his only 32. Anyway late 2020 he signed with a Swedish fishing village team called Osterlen FF. There's only 400 people in the village but Adu's contract was terminated before his first game because of concerns with 'mental and physical strength'.
Legend has it though that he actually disappeared and is now lost at sea, his fishing trawler swallowed up by the expectation of the 400 strong people of Osterlen and the hopes that they have of Champions League qualification.
Unfortunately it's the same weight of expectation that stalled his development as the next 'Pele'. Pele first met Freddy Adu in 2004 when they made a Sierra Mist commercial and Pele said Adu had been given the gift to play football. That's given me a rough idea for a blog on phantom transfers that never happened. He seemed to be perennially linked with a move to Manchester United although I'm not sure that they were ever actually interested in him!
Similarly Spurs supposedly had a long running interest in Leandro Damião. Every transfer window the same story circulating that he was joining Spurs. I've just googled him and found he's now playing in Japan!
