Beautiful!! I can't believe it's time already!
You and I and a small tribe of newbie hunters...
Nice haul! Last year was our first time here!
Precious share!!! Thanks!
The woods has always been my favorite classroom..
Hugs to all Peppers! I hope spring is filling you with joy!
Wow, they're a fungi of some sort yes? What an interesting texture... and you can eat them? I'd love to learn about foraging... we found native raspberries last week but we didn't eat them as we weren't sure of what they were. Next time I'm out that way, we're going to try and pot some up! : ) Love your photo too btw!
These are morel mushrooms! Edible and much desired. They are popping only a few weeks every spring. We try to gather and dry enough to get us through until the next spring.
Some folks sell them and fetch $40-60/pound.
Wild foods are a big part of our life and diet, being cautious is very smart! I hope you get to learn more about the foods that grow wild around you.
Have a lovely week my fungus loving friend!
That is awesome! How did you start finding out what is and isn't safe to eat?
I was blessed with a community of folks that believed that life was an adventure of learning!
But then a good book about edible plants to let you know what to look for, and a really good field guide for identification is essential.
People are often the best resource, I find my brain does best with stories and experiences to attach new knowledge to.
I used to offer "weed walks" to folks, right in their back yard, if its not handy they are likely not going to continue it.
Hugs and good luck!
I'll have to look into it more... the best we do is visit abandoned orchards and collect each year. I'd like to harvest salt and also try collecting seaweed to make sushi wraps but native bush foods really interest me! : )
Exciting times! Its the start of the season here too.
May your hunt abundantly fruitful! Enjoy the time with nature.
ooh, that makes me a little homesick. they are so beautiful! Enjoy!
They don't grow by you? Oof!
You need a friend with an abundant hunt to send you some...;)
Nice find... and really nice photo too!
Hello friend!!! Are you a forager?
Are you surviving these last weeks before the move? Its got to be challenging to have spring springing and not be on the land taking it all in!
Oh it is very much so, challenging. I just want to be romping around in the forest and nothing esle!!! We are currently looking for a bigger camper to put up there and we still have to clear an area for it.
I started germinating seeds for a tomato garden, but we only have the apartment right now so, limited space.
I feel such excitement for you knowing what you have ahead...
Grinning ear to ear
...and taking a deep breath and looking deeper into the same wonder and love of adventure that my place is to me...three years later...
May this journey be one of sustainable joy and wonder for you and your family!
That is so sweet. Thank you so much for your kind words. It really makes me feel fuzzy inside!
And may your journey keep on flourishing with much joy and wonder as well!!! So exciting... 5 weeks left in Babylon!
We are getting rain today and this week we should start seeing them here! You have my mouth watering.
Yes, the rain is crucial, we are having a cold weekend here but the warm days forecasted for next week should get things going. Best of luck! Enjoy the nature time.
