It makes sense in a general sort of way... the "problem" is when retail therapy passes by simply following our genetic imperatives for gathering... and becomes "hoarding," which is definitely a mental disturbance of sorts. Animals gather enough to feed themselves through winter... but they don't keep gathering till they have enough to feed 500.

Indeed! But the great thing with foraging is that you can't accumulate clutter--you can't really hoard because organic things decompose. Animals do store food, like bees, that's not really hoarding though...
