This is awesome! What type of oaks do you have? By the size, those look like nice white oak acorns. I have mainly red and pin oak trees on my land, and they art tiny and contain more tannins. But I've still been wanting to attempt a harvest and processing, just to see if it's a viable food source.

We have mostly white oaks (three different varieties that I haven't quite pinpointed, identification-wise. There's one massive red oak in our front few acres, but it seems to have taken the year off, acorn-wise (oaks usually have bumper-crop years and off years). There are benefits to red oak acorns too! I got this from Thayer's book: he says that red oak acorns have a higher oil content and dry/moisten faster. So there's benefits to both!

Hope you're able to get a harvest in sometime! It's worth the adventure :).

Good to know, thanks for the info! If I do get a bumper crop next year, I’ll be sure to document the harvest and processesing here on Steemit.
