Today, i will be dicussing a topic on forgiveness. You can call it motivation but it is not philosophy! Join me as you might learn one or two things from this.
As human beings, we are concsious of things around us. We love it when we are praised and hate is when we are condemned. Most of our actions are done consciously as we are aware of their possible results.
Also, we are fully aware of our imperfections which is the definer of our existence. The ability to realise that we are capable of doing either good of bad is what informs good or bad judgement.
I have heard many people use the line above (my title) as a means to appeal to somebody to forgive fellow human being because forgiveness is an attribute of the Supreme Being. It is often used to appeal to people who are angry about someone for whatever wrong done to them.
It is often used religiously but i beg to be different as i intend to relate it with our normal activities.
It is very important to have a forgiven spirit. By this, i mean rational ability to understand that we can also be in the same situation becsuse we all can male mistakes. By mistakes, i mean those done within morality. And i am not referring to law because at that realm, many things are considered and justice rather than forgiveness counts there.
Like i said above, none of us is perfect. So the more we realise we can also offend another person and expect them to forgive us too, the more we make life easy for one another.
Forgiven here means letting go. I do not mean those that claim they have forgiven you but still hold grudges against you. I have heard many say: I can forgive you but i cannot forget what you did.
This is illogical for me. One thing you should know is that, when someone offends you, it makes you think very deep. You wonder what you did wrong to be treated the way you were treated, you wonder if it was your familiarity that breeds the contempt, you wonder how you were respected when things were going fine and how you are now being disrespected because things are now different. These things make you think deep. Sometimes, this continuous thinking make people think about the unthinkable and do unimaginable and irrational things.
So when you forgive, but refuse to forget, you are simply still hurting. It means your forgiveness is on the surface. It means you forgave the person so that you wont be seen as a bad person considering the number of people that pleaded- especially in Africa that elders may be sent to you.
In reality, you have not forgiven the person but you suspend your anger. You will still reference the act at every instance especially if the offender happens to be your husband or wife. So the proper thing is to both forgive and forget. By so doing, you save yourself a great deal of trouble.
The first thing to preach to human is love. Once you consider the other person as an extension of yourself, it will be easy to let go of things. Do not forget that you can be angry with yourself too! So what would you do?
Thinking about past bad things to reference for future bad action is very wrong. I think if people forgive and let go of many things, the world would be better today.
If someone offends you, speak to the person, tell him or her you felt offended. If the person apologises, fine. If the person did not, do not take it against the person because having grudges against someone or expecting similar opportunity to act equally back is the worst feeling a human can have.
When you forgive, you have this peace within you. You feel this sense of living again. It really pays to have nothing troubling your brain.
Thanks for reading. Its your boy @smyle the philosopher.

Nice post fella keep steeming!!
Thanks!
You are right, forgiving without forgetting will keep bringing back the incident and that might lead to more hatred
Yes! Letting go totally should be the watchword! Thanks for your contribution.
Its actually almost impossible to forget, though you have forgiven but sometimes the thought keeps coming back.....but forgiving other actually gives peace to your heart.
Thanks! That peace is what matters!
Almighty God taught us to alwYs forgive. Obedience to hos word brings blessing. Yes to forgive is devine. Nice job
Forgiveness is not an option, it's a must. Good to read this bro.
Thanks.
This post is good. WE are prone to mistakes, we err everyday and as such shouldnt castigate others and feel it is only God who will forgive such one. How do we expect God to forgive us if we wouldnt forgive others? Thanks
The synopsis of your title from my view point is this: Errors are part of humanity and we are beset with mistakes which is our nature as imperfect beings but on the other hand, forgiveness is a much more difficult status to attain and it actually takes a man with an attribute of divinity to be able to completely and genuinely forgive a wrong done to him. Most times the human nature would tend us towards revenge and bitterness but that divine nature would simply ' walk away ' from a wrong.
Please whoever i offended here should please forgive me... Lovely post bro.. This one is different from our normal philosophy😁.
Lols! Yeah! Expect philosophy today😀
As long as sm1 ask for forgiveness,i find it really easy to forgive but not forget.
Where i have problem with forgiving is if you dont realize you erred by yourself
hmmm! The essence of this is actually to forget. Please learn to forget MA!
Even the Bible admonishes that we should forgive others if we would want God to forgive us. Merci!!!
