The beauty in the term four twenty is not in what it represents, but rather the simplicity and elegance of its origin.
When searching for the terms origin, I found it in Wikipedia. And though I often question the site in terms of pinpoint accuracy, I will use it today. Simply because the story told of the origin of the term four twenty is, for lack of a better term: awesome.
The story is: In 1971, five California high school students daily met at 4:20 PM to search for an abandoned cannabis crop.
That is it. It is that simple.
And the terms grew in popularity over the years and became synonymous with acts of civil disobedience. Not only at 4:20 PM (or AM), but also on April 20 (4/20).
In an era of forced hastag movements and countless examples of Mean Girl Gretchen Weiner types "trying to make fetch happen", it is refreshing to see an example of a term so simple in origin organically spreading over time, representing something as simple as hanging out with friends. And hopefully, one day four twenty will represent legal activity everywhere.

very interesting
This is super interesting! If I may suggest...this would be really great if you added an image or two to grab the eye and break up the text. The story is awesome, just needs something snazzy to make it look snappy when folks click through to really elevate it!
Yeah...I was looking for a public domain pic at the time, but give the "time sensitivity" of the piece, I posted it picless ;).
