Absolute environmental and economic disaster. The environmental damage is obvious, for those, as said in this video, who have any inkling to investigate. Economically, it's a 'flash in the pan' total recovery barely covers costs (low net energy), royalties promised to leasers of drill sites (typically small private landowners) never materialize. Drill site leases themselves traded like Mortgage Backed Securities (we all are still hurting from the previous 'Sub-Prime' business model!) Ultimately in terms of sociology, it's just the latest chapter in the history of Enclosure; the 'heathen' who can no longer survive the dead zones will become cheap labor in the emerging new world order mega city.

A least when all the people are dead or gone they can dump Nuclear waste down the holes and the oil companies can re-brand as waste management!
Scathing sarcasm, or fossil/centralized fuel industry marketing genius!
