CICADA STRIKES BACK

in #freakoutmoment7 years ago

Baby girl wanted to go outside this morning. Why not, it's a beautiful day. We will take the phone and see what nature has to offer us!!

Cicadas, the night-time forest rooster. Cicadas are fun creatures, they hibernate for years, and when they come out again, they really want to be heard!! Although you can hear cicadas, you cannot always find them. So imagine my surprise when I looked 10 foot from the door and there is a lovely perfectly preserved dead one right here so a photo shoot! How perfect!!

This guy is called a pruinosus pruinosus. Took a while looking through the camo cicada collection to find it.

I put a lighter next to him/her for size comparison.

So now I should turn him over and get a picture of his undercarriage so I can identify him properly for all my good steemit friends. Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz This thing takes off right at my face!!! Of course baby girl is right there too and I admit I almost ran away without her. What a great mom!! She thought it was hilarious! I'm screaming "IT'S ALIVE" and running for shelter. I waited two whole minutes before retrieving my phone and lighter!!

Somebody once mentioned my bravery.... HA!! I've been done in by a bug!!

Share with me your favorite #freakoutmoment. Let's make this a conversation!! Thanks for stopping by!

I bet that would have been hilarious to watch. Too bad you weren't filming. I can just imagine you throwing the phone and running.

lol that's how it went down, with a last second grab the baby and duck and cover motion!!

I couldn't see the hole where it molted so you should've known lol! I would have done the same thing though lol

I don't know cicadas that well, where were you when I needed this vital information?!?!? Thanks for the tip, maybe I can be braver next time.

Oh my goodness this post is hilarious! I am with you friend, I am not a fan of being close to live bugs...especially big ones. I can imagine the look on your face when it took off lol! 😂 Well you survived and your daughter got a laugh for the day. Great pictures btw!

I have had many freak out moments. The one that stands out the most just happened recently. I was doing school with my daughter and I had just put my one year old son (who is now walking and getting into everything) in his bouncer so he could sleep. After 20 minutes I look up and don’t see him. I start panicking and ask my other children “where is the baby?” At this point I’m thinking the worst, he went up the stairs alone, he’s stuck somewhere, he’s hurt and can’t move...then I look at my daughter who has a big smile on her face like she’s about to laugh. I said “this is not a time to play this is serious.” She then points at the bouncer that I last put him in and says “mom he’s been there the whole time.” I couldn’t do anything but laugh at myself because within 20 minutes I forgot I put him in there on top of me missing him when I scanned the room to find him. That was a #freakoutmoment and a #mommybrainsmoment lol!! 😂😅

Teehee Your daughter knew just what to do!! Just point and try not to laugh at mom! I have had those moments, ah!! what happened to baby?!? Then I remember she is napping. I love that you were caught freaking out!!

Haa yes she did! She wanted to laugh so bad but held it in till after I knew he was safe! 😄
