Balance Of Freedom

in #freedom2 years ago

The drawbacks of having ample amounts of freedoms is that it allows for doing "immoral" things unfortunately. It's a really tricky balance honestly because once you give the governing body power to ascertain what is right or wrong on a much more narrow scale, you greatly run the risk of corruption/tyranny... however, provided the society and people in charge are virtuous, good people it would theoretically yield better results than a more "live and let live" scenario. It's really difficult to say what is ideal long-term since it's clear that the latter choice is best from our individual POVs, but chances are "special interests" will corrupt such a powerful institution and/or not be implemented how you see fit. But that gets into a very political, contentious argument lmfao

I definitely like some aspects of vigilantism though, particularly as it relates to punishing child predators. Channels like Anxiety War comes to mind in how to do such vigilantism correctly, though. The system is by no means perfect, but assisting the system by effectively trapping the criminals and hand delivering the evidence to the cops seems reasonably effective from what I can tell. Bit more difficult for Scientology though since the alleged abuses are generally emotional with underhanded social "threats", at least that's my understanding. Really difficult to handle those cases unfortunately.
