A Key to Success No Matter What.... Be the Best Version of YOU. A Day at a Time. Some Thoughts from a Guy That Actually Cares. Inspired by an 1854 Published Author / Woodsman - Henry David Thoreau. E.9

in #freedom7 years ago

What it takes daily for success means something different for everyone. Yet some keys linger as commonalities I find the older I get.

But I desire a simpler life, the more I have given away and the longer I have lived.

I am turning this into a series. (Edited into / on the 7th day of the 1st post I did on this since writing it)

I thought about this for a whole week, and it has been 7 days since I wrote this and read about Thoreau and his life and it has truly impacted me enough to carry this message and this fellow's beliefs forward for others. At the last minute here before the first week of this post-series pays out-- I came back to it, made the edits and committments to carry this forwards long term.

I will include this template with each post and inside each post you will find a quote from Thoreau, towards the end of each of these posts in this series. Past episodes I will include near the end also, to keep the focus on this man who has inspired me from the 1850's and hope it helps someone out there also.

Henry David Thoreau's thoughts on moving towards our dreams is something many of us have seen and read.

The following quote is only a small part of what Thoreau would feel, and then share in his writings following his 2 year off grid, backwoods experiment at Walden Pond in the 1850's and it inspires me:

“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws will be expanded and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings.”

I have pasted that screenshot text from WikiPedia, at the end of my blog. It fascinates me.

-- Why???

Walden (/ˈwɔːldən/; first published as Walden; or, Life in the Woods) is a book by noted transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau. The text is a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings.[2] The work is part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, satire, and (to some degree) manual for self-reliance.[3]

--

-- My love of Bushcraft, the simple life, the outdoors/ living off grid, is 110% tied to this and causes me to think differently than I did years ago as I seek TRUE liberty, away from the propaganda, lies, and violence of "the state" and the corruption surrounding it.

As I mentioned earlier, it means different things, to different people.

What does success look like, what does success mean to me?

Many of us have asked ourselves this question a pile of times over the years. An example of a typical list might look like:

-- Travel more, enrich our lives and knowledge
-- Deepen our knowledge of Crypto and Blockchain wisdom for more Liberty
-- To earn enough money to achieve financial freedom.
-- Find and deepen the right relationships
-- Buy a waterfront vacation home
-- Find a place that is not filled with corruption
-- Spend more time with friends and family

These are relateable to many of us, I bet.

However, they are the results of success, not success itself. We can have these or similar things..... and be really miserable in our lives, and therefore NOT successful.

--

I like to help people but frankly am sick and tired of being left behind, forgotten about, stabbed in the back....... when I try and do the right thing or help others.

It bothers me. I am human. I have feelings and I care.

It is making me numb.

And I hate it.

I really try to approach it the best, most healthy way I can -- but it wears on you day after day. You question if it is worth it really.

I will keep trying.

It's important that we advance within ourselves with the knowledge and tools and right heart to do what we need to do.

I think this is the fundamental part of the equation inside for success from within; you cannot buy it at a seminar or with the latest app, or marketing tool.

I really am sick of the lies, of the state, the statists and sheep backing up the police state, while I really desire a simpler, off grid, self reliant lifestyle....

-- of course fought at every turn by THE STATE.

Sunlight, water, solar power, collecting rainwater, a garden for food since it was free decades ago, and such.

Yes, are we really free????

Walden (/ˈwɔːldən/; first published as Walden; or, Life in the Woods) is a book by noted transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau.

The text is a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings.[2] The work is part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, satire, and (to some degree) manual for self-reliance.[3]

First published in 1854, Walden details Thoreau's experiences over the course of two years, two months, and two days in a cabin he built near Walden Pond, amidst woodland owned by his friend and mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson, near Concord, Massachusetts.

Thoreau used this time to write his first book, A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers. The experience later inspired Walden, in which Thoreau compresses the time into a single calendar year and uses passages of four seasons to symbolize human development.

By immersing himself in nature, Thoreau hoped to gain a more objective understanding of society through personal introspection. Simple living and self-sufficiency were Thoreau's other goals, and the whole project was inspired by transcendentalist philosophy, a central theme of the American Romantic Period.

Thanks for reading, have a nice day.

Please note -- I will have limited internet access for awhile -- so PLEASE do not be upset that I cannot reply right away, or to everyone. I am dealing with some changes, and will have limited time online and will be happy if I get a few blog posts up a week.
This has really upset some people but I do not force my opinions on others, or need to communicate every detail of my life or issues, most people do not care anyways. I invested around 10 hours or more a day on Steemit most of my first 13 mths here, I just do not have that time in my life right now, and that includes for replies and voting/curation.
I have done my best, sorry if you do not understand like some are clearly having a problem with. It's a blogging platform, and I will do my best at everything, and to keep blogging.
Carry On.

I had to read Thoreau in high school. I don't remember what the book was, but I remember reading something about ants and how they move with a purpose. Something like that. Regardless, I do believe his message is amazing. Great wisdom on life. Many lessons and thought-provoking stuff in his work.

@barrydutton ohh I sure am going to enjoy this series! I am a likeminded thinker! Absolutely love the simple life. I can declare that I follow and lead a similar belief and way of life, as this philosopher! Establishing guidlines in ones life to gauge success or goal setting is something I strive to teach my children. Teaching the ways of the land, being happier everyday with less. Living minutes from Algonquin park and the Pickwaknagan so close we enjoy the ways and teachings of these people. Success! Defined, in my own interpretation, raising kids to be kind, compassionate, self supporting, hard working and determined, check. Success is “standing on my own 2” with as little reliance on our government. I had lots of big dreams that I know would have endured my inner happiness, like cabin in woods by a stream off grid for example, but realistically when your goals have to change due to situations beyond your control, one has to learn to find new achievable goals to work towards to maintain that inner happiness. Becoming a widow so young in life, changed my entire perspective on “what happiness is” my 3 children were the priority and I learned how to say to myself, be patient it’s not your turn yet to have things, it’s the kids turn. Once they are grown, then it’s your turn. Keeping faith in plan B goals. Thanks Barry for this self reflection, of my successes!

Wow, I learned more about you in this reply than I have ever known -- and yes I have wondered about.

I think we will have to meet one day.

Will they deliver us a pizza in the woodz?

"30 Hours or Free"

lol

Thanks for that amazing reply!!!! It really speaks to me.

Both of us have Plan B's -- I certainly never planned on being run down and forever damaged by a car and my file being buried to ruin me by all the gov't people.

Public... Service....... right??

I've not heard of Thoreau until now. Right up my street thanks for sharing. Glad I found you I'll be there for the next one!

If you read my post, even the first 1/4 you will see something shifted in me when I found this guy that first night, I had to turn this into a series, hopefully like with you -- to expose more people to him!!!!

Thanks!

I've read it sounds like a amazing guy lots to learn from him just been looking up the books :)

Liberty and the Outdoors..... there is so much goodness in this guy, thanks for commenting.

I am glad this series is exposing 1 or 2 or 3 people/week to #Thoreau !!

dude you seem like a nice guy but this reposting of the same content isnt going to get you an upvote from me. just sayin.

You know this is a series, right?

Series means there is a consistent format.

a series means that something would change from week to week. if i could see any kind of change in your post, an additional thought, an addition of new content, that might apply. i dont see a progression.

I have been struggling with this Barry, thanks for your post of encouragement! I tend to look to far ahead in the future and get super depressed.

We all live one day at a time, you do not put both pants legs on at the same time man, you are only human.

-- give yourself a break -- you have that permission my friend.

Thanks for the good comments, you go easy on yourself this week, and LMK back how it goes.

Honestly.

thanks dude... I needed that!

I have one last hurdle to get over this weekend (teaching a Bitcoin & Crypto beginners class in-person in my hometown), but after that.

BREAK TIME!!

Rock that out and then, take time for you.

Be well, my friend.

Very well done as usual Barry. Love the idea of a series on this. You picked a great one to quote and follow. Love his work and this goes hand in hand with what you and I love and believe in! Going to share this one. Best wishes.

You too man, nice to hear from you again!

Interesting, I'll have to check Thoreau out. Now that I think about it I think I remember coming across an amazing quote by him but I can't remember what the just of it is now....

Shoot, the guy was a whole life of quotes LOL!!!!!

Look at this series hahahahaha!!!!

I am east of Toronto here in Canadastan BTW

I'm by Edmonton.
