Yes. But it isn't about getting the victim whole, the victim won't be whole otherwise he/she wouldn't be the victim. It seems a bit utopian to me that the criminal will apologize and then work his sins off while still being in society.I agree that the terms for punishment are to some degree subjective but they exist to prevent others from doing the same and to provide a reason for others to not do the same.

Thank you for the reply brother. If one is required to give reparations for damages and compensation to the victims or else not be allowed to participate in society, that would be the deterrent.
Nice idea, this is such a huge and intricate topic. But this deterrent would presume that everybody would already participate in society, which has never been the case for 100 %, at least not that I know. Criminality is often a way to engage in society either because you have no money and need it to participate or maybe for recognition depending on the person
