One thought that I have been pondering recently is an idea I like to call the "circle of judgement." This is a place you feel comfortable with and somewhat secure thus giving you the mental lethargy to form an opinion of others. This judgement may come from your ego, insecurity, or fear of the unknown. This is a defense mechanism meant to quickly shield yourself from others. The circle where this takes place can be anywhere; your room, your car, even just as simple as inside your mind walking down the sidewalk, depending on the situation.
Next time you are in your car and you see another person in their car and that person behaves rude to you, ask yourself, would this person do this if they were not in their car? Probably not. The same is applied to someone in their home or even to the most basic level of one's ego. The ego puts up a mental wall in a conversation to avoid a challenging topic that could potentially damage or break down one's ego and humble one's self.
Why is the ego damaged in this situation and a wall becomes necessary for some? To put it bluntly, this is an ego trap; a survival instinct.
Quite simply, The more knowledge you learn that causes you to expand your consciousness, the less resistance you will have towards others. The more you think you know, causing you to want to learn less, the more you may believe you have it all figured out and the more resistant you will be to others. That is the paradox we find ourselves in.
I, myself, try not to fall in this trap and have to catch myself from time to time. Next time you are at your computer and chatting with someone online or just driving on the road inside a vehicle, look out for these behaviors and do your best to minimize the traps we mentally put ourselves through. By doing this, we are one step closer to connecting to our true soul. Recognize your circle of judgment and the mental cage we enclose ourselves in!
