No muting? You crazy. (Joke!)
I conducted a poll recently asking the community what the best way to deal with trolls on Hive is. Out of four options they all voted for "mute".
I especially like to mute all the little advertisements talking about how some curation group upvoted a post or how I earned $0.01 worth of some tokens I don't need or care about, since all the message is is spam. Or if someone's being obnoxious and tells me I should mute if I don't like it, I'll call their bluff.
Other people can still see what people mute here. Muting doesn't remove the content. Even the one muting can still see it, they just don't get notified.
I've been muted countless times. I'll probably get muted for saying this. I've been muted by people who pose as free speech advocates when it's convenient for them. Doesn't bother me.
There is a different blockchain social network that has a "feature" which actually does hide comments from the general public if the author mutes them. That way their bullshitting con artists can get away with duping people, free of opposition.
And your comments about everyone sharing one mind. To me that sounds like an echo chamber. In a decentralized environment, people think differently. Can't tell everyone to be the same or expect everyone to be the same. I've seen some come along with lines like "Like it or not, this is how Hive is and that's how it's supposed to be." And even if the thoughts are pure coming from a good place, they're still acting like a dictator. Especially cringeworthy when it's someone identifying as an anarchist preaching about proper procedures, but charlatans happen. What can you do...
In a decentralized environment, you do you, expect the rest to be themselves. Not everyone will see eye to eye, and that's only natural.
Now... Hive doesn't claim to be uncensored. It states "censorship resistence" only.
But it does claim to be decentralized.
My responsibility, as a free and personally sovereign individual is to do my own due diligence and make an informed decision about whether this is the community / blockchain for me personally.
And, as focus narrows, which sub-commuities have the same walk as I do. Many voices and all that. Plus it's far more fun sharing the journey at times. We are a "pack" creature after all and do need each other to thrive.
This can only be done if I engage curiously, with an open mind, and with a variety of perspectives and experiences of others around here. Of course!
But it requires a certain amount of fearlessness. Of course. To do this authentically.
Freedom. 👆🏼
The rewards, I must add, are outstanding. Perhaps not in monetary terms... but in terms of learning and progress...
Invaluable.
Thanks for your response(s). My apologies for scattering your mind. There are things I could say but I feel like this is one of those situations where they might be converted into something else or I'll struggle with being clear.
Perfect opportunity to simply mute myself lol.
Yeah... actual discussion isn't easy via text. This is a big part of the problem with the world currently perhaps.
Don't you dare ever mute yourself. Or allow anyone else to mute you.
:/
Happy Monday 🌼 😊
p.s. I'm gonna take some down time for a bit of silent contemplation as well. Do enjoy it and am all talked out for a bit. ❤️ 🪷
I've seen some shit in my day, and there's a lot about life that doesn't need to be explained to me.
I don't think it's necessary to pick this apart, to clue you in as to where I'm at. Sure it's set in a way that seems inviting to do so, but I don't need to prove myself. It's more about your own journey and staying quiet would be my way of ensuring there are no traffic lights or direction signs.
I'll give one look at some outside perspective: Choosing to remain silent exhibits freedom. People can also tell me to get lost and STFU if they want to. You mentioned texting and sure, in text the "keyboard warrior" is likely to respond to that with cockiness and arrogance. In life, it's a warning and listening could save your life, provided that one makes a proper judgement call.
That's where I'll leave it and will remind you there's no need to circle back around. You're not wrong.
Major food for thought. Thank you for that!
Tom Robbins said that fighting any broken system is only buying into it and the best one can do is walk away to really be free :)
Smart guy(s).
Just found this as back on a laptop and decent flow again. Happy Monday ❤️
