I was at a friend's house a while back, back when the Snowden situation was in the corrupt media daily. My friend is very gullible (he voted for Hilliary Clinton), and has never been able to see the big picture. He goes through life working a crappy job, bitching and moaning, but blames "The Republicans" for everything. Now, everything is Trump's fault. Anytime he is mentioned, or comes on television, my friend goes off, saying he wishes someone would "kill that mother-fucker!" It's quite comical.
A segment about Edward Snowden came on the corporate news station that my friend was watching, and I remarked, "We need a guy like that for president." My friend looked at me shocked, and replied, "He's a traitor! He should be executed! He put a lot of people's lives in danger!" He recited that sentiment just as though directly instructed by the powers-that-be.
I told by buddy that Mr. Snowden gave up a very good paying job, his family and friends, and everything he valued to expose the tyranny of an out-of-control, insane, and massively corrupt government, and he did it for all of us, including my friend. I asked him if it didn't bother him, knowing that the government was intercepting all of his communications. Of course, and predictably, my friend replied, "No, because I don't have anything to hide."
In the brilliant words of Edward Snowden himself (paraphrasing), Saying you don't care if the government gathers all of your private information because you have nothing to hide, is like saying that you don't value your freedom of speech because you have nothing to say.
LEGALIZE FREEDOM!!
smu. time for some new friends! Adam's campaign could be a great social revolution as well as political. Right?
Right. In the US at least, we have moved to a more Fascist system in which the big corporations have nearly merged with government. That very much changes our society, and we get the abusive system of control that we now have. Corrupt bankers actually have the backing of the government in this system, instead of being seen as the evil that they are. That's why the cryptocurrencies are so popular among those that value FREEDOM.
