India's Independence struggle :Women freedom?

in #freedom6 years ago

We Indians are proud of our heritage, are considered one of the most hard-working and intelligent people in the world, Reached mars and invented zero, but when it comes to gender equality we are still far behind. The reasons behind this are manifold. A lot lies in the ancient culture. Even in our famous religious literature women have been portrayed as the weaker sex; whether it's Seeta in Ramayana, who had to walk on fire (Agni-Pareeksha) to prove her sanctity, or it's Draupadi in Mahabharata, who was molested and insulted in-front of her husbands (5 husbands, she was shared like a commodity by 5 brothers) and several other people, after being traded like an object in a game.

Educated women who ventured into the public sphere have provoked a backlash from conservatives. Village elders have triggered national headlines for banning young girls from owning cell phones or from working outside their homes. It has been a patriarchal n disgusting one… We Indians never thinks about female we just try to fulfil our ego…If any girl drinks in a party our society tagged him accordingly but man has all right for that and that’s our society accepts.

I am reflecting on these middle-school dynamics as today I read a report about a Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher from Raipur in Chhattisgarh, who said in class, “Girls expose their body only when they don't have beautiful faces. Girls have become so shameless, why did Nirbhaya go out so late at night with a boy who wasn't her husband? It’s difficult to understand why an issue was made of this. Such incidents happen with girls in remote areas frequently. Nirbhaya's mother shouldn't have allowed her go out so late at night”. Later, in a video found on Quint, she defends her actions saying that as a teacher it is her duty to warn her students
