In our world, inexplicable things have been happening, society is living in a non-civilized period, in every country there are censorship criteria for those who think differently or promote something different from the interests of those who can govern a country, a system, a means of communication or simply social networks.
News of aggression against those who try to defend their rights has become a trend every day. It is unfortunate that after imagining a technological life for 2020 as we saw in the series the super sonics, we can only live a life of censorship, no one can give an opinion without being intimidated or insulted, it is sad to see this when our mind must have already generated a more flexible maturity than 100 years ago where slavery, rape of women, racism and many social denigrations were the main policies of life.
I confess, that this initiative of @theycallmedan called my attention a lot, a topic as delicate as Freedom of Expression is indispensable to discuss and put into practice in every opportunity where a meeting of two or more people is experienced.
However, I will limit myself to answering the questions.
1.- What does Free Speech mean to you?
Freedom of Expression is a right granted since our birth, it would seem a joke, but at birth, most people leave crying and no one can force you to be quiet, only through understanding and good treatment you can get to do it, so it is in adolescence or as an adult, when one wants to express something, this can be anyway, even crying and insulting although the latter is one of the bad forms of expression, freedom should be used in a decent and calm way.
I understand the annoyance of @theycallmedan from my own experience, it has happened to me in several occasions that they sabotage my accounts in social networks because they belong to a different idealism "must be" to those who manage the networks or to hackers. But well, then I remember that it is an auxiliary means of communication and also that it is private property, and I move away. That's why I thought that society should have "public" communication services for its proper use where there is no censorship.
2.- Do you believe Free Speech is worth saving? If yes, why do you believe it is important?
Freedom of expression must be defended primarily in the social sphere and laws must guarantee fair determination in private environments. In public society there should not be censorship of any kind, everyone has with due respect to defend their freedom of expression, as I said before, it is a birthright and therefore must be respected, however, and as with censorship in social networks, these media are purely private, were generated from a capital, and although it sounds hard, whoever places the capital places the conditions, for me this is the evil of private society, which require participation but cut others because they are supposedly weak.
There are many voices that have been silenced, but they are about to explode. I believe that after this pandemic, the world will suffer a drastic change towards the true diversity of thoughts, where those who have lived quietly and submissively, will go out to recover their voice before the world and will expose the inequality of opportunities and powers that many nations keep silent.
Thanks for sharing your views on freedom of expression and no censorship.
Would it however been right if a person of one gender badmouth the other - it would be freedom of speech, but hurting another person - should it be allowed. (I used gender, but one can use; religion, race, sexual orientation etc.)
