The Java wax apple is available throughout Asia but it is in season at the moment and when I saw some I couldn't help buying them. It has been a while since I tasted them...
The latin name for this fruit is syzygium samarangense but it is sometimes referred to as the Malay apple or the water rose apple or in Indonesian jambu air. However it is not related to the apple we know in the West.
The tree of this fruit is very interesting as fruit can appear anywhere along the trunk's surface or branches. There are many different colors and varieties and the spreading of the cultivation of this fruit is lots in the mists of our history. I was even reading of one variety called black pearl because of it's black skin.
I have never tried a black pearl but I will keep my eyes out for one! 😉
This fruit has an interesting taste. Watery and crunchy with white flesh inside a bright pink skin as you can see from the photos. I am always interested in the medicinal values of plants and apparently it is used in Taiwan for fever and to halt diarrhea.
If you get the chance try one of these interesting fruit. I wonder if you can find them in Western groceries?

I like this fruit. It's called "chompoo" in Thailand where I live. We usually have it all year around. There are many health benefits to this fruit but I've never seen any sold in Europe.
