More wild fruits: wild apricot

in #fruit7 years ago

Wild apricots are named for their appearance rather than their taste. Like all wild fruit, this one has a large pip (seed) in relation to the fruit, unlike the cultivated fruits that we eat that have been bred over generations to have smaller seeds and larger flesh. The fruit has a pleasant but tart, sherbet-like flavour and is very high in Vitamin C.

Wild apricot plants are a common and distinctive low shrub in the grasslands although like most of the plants here, they are adapted to survive fire and they do this by growing within rock formations, as this one has. It seem more like a creeper than a bush, with long stems that trail along the rocks. it is also highly adapted to the geology of the area, because it only grows in quartzite outcrops

Apricots have great health benefits, along with great taste. You wrote a nice, informative post. Keep up :)

How would you compare the flavor of store-bought vs. wild?

Farmed fruits are much more sugary and often much blander in taste

I like it but i know The wild apricot is a small tree between 5 and 8m in height with a greyish brown bark. The flowers can be white, pink or tinged with red and the fruit is yellow to orange often tinged with red on the side most exposed to the sun.

There are many different plants called wild apricots

Australian native fruits are tarty usually. But drought tolerant and wind tolerant. Nice article natives are the best

Given that Australia also has frequent bush fires and fire is actually necessary for the ecosystem, I'm surprised that so many of your native trees get so big. Here, everything tends to stay smallish because it grows in the rocks. Almost like natural bonsai

depends where you go on Australia

oh that is interesting that it grows on a low shrub as opposed to a tall tree.

There are no native tall trees, fire keeps them short. Everything that grows here is adapted to survive fire

The wildlife is very rich in species of everything.
I do not know this apricot here.
You still have to find emeralds.
Greetings @nikv.

This was a very important gold mining area

It is very interesting

Apricots are nice, have a great taste and seeing lovely pictures of them is increasing my cravings😋.

It actually has the appearance of a fig. The plant itself does not compare. In Africa you have so many interesting plants and geographical to explore. Thank you.

Normally, the fruits are rounder. There haven't been many on this plant this year so this one isn't the greatest example of its kind. Africa is extremely diverse, due to its great age and because 'development' has been slow, there is still much nature left although it is disappearing fast.

I love the fruits and seeing these images of nature make me want to be there and imagine eating the delicious fruit. I like that you invest part of your time in recovering this kind of things. grateful and satisfied. You can be happy because your content is great and will continue to be for other users as much as it is for me!

Apricots are nice and very nutritious to the body, contains fiber that aids in digestion, an amount of water and the sugary taste breaks down to glucose in our system, which keeps us stronger. You should never look away wen next you find it in the market...@nikv
