This is a great article - informative and educative as well.

However, I would like to correct a wrong notion being that every African person, object or practice has to have an English name.

There's no such thing as an African Star Apple.

It is simply "Udara" OR "Agbalumo".

Furthermore, "Udara" is not in the family of Apple fruits, therefore, it cannot be called an "Apple".

I understand that Nigerians gave it such English name due to the shape of the seeds... That's smart, but corny.

But instead of being the ones to name our "things" in another man's language, we should allow them to name it themselves, or assimilate our own words for such things, just as they did with words like "Agbada" - Oxford dictionary tags it as "West African English" - that's fine by me.

So please, let's stick what it is and not suck up to the English people.

Once again, I love your article.... It's beautiful!

Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate, I love your point.

You can't say it wrong because you want them to adopt the name it is been called here in Nigeria.
African star Apple is the general English name it is called but here in Nigeria we call it different name, the Yoruba name is AGBALUMO, Igbos call it UDARA and the Hausa's call it CIWOH....

Uhmmmm
