RE: So long and thanks for all the fish.

lotta people frustrated. i am one.

my latest bone to pick is that is so damn hard to become part of a community. right now, it's one big community and everyone's trying to be a part of that one instead of forming smaller but viable communities.

Come join steemit.chat. There are tons of smaller chat rooms in there, bound to find one that interests you to join.

The thing about my particular issue, and the one you mention here, is exactly rooted in the same thing. We are all stuck with an interface that does not allow the development of proper compartments. Reddit has Subreddits. Facebook has groups and pages. What does Steemit have? No block function, and no groups. These are not blockchain related issues either. The block function is simply not properly implemented, in fact the grey-out effect is insultingly highlighting the people you mute, and the addition of groups is a static database system.

With an effective mute function it wouldn't matter if there were trolls in a group. Those who don't mind them can see them, and those who do, can't. Ultimately if someone can't stand seeing your text show up on their screen you, or them, will probably leave the group at some point anyway.

I am no spring chicken when it comes to forums, and it is precisely the domination of discussions by the lowest common denominator and a lack of freedom of association that tends to drive people away.

If nothing is done about it, the trolls will dominate the system and eventually everyone will leave.

By the way, there is nothing stopping someone from creating a name blockchain for steemit groups, I don't know about how it would be certified but it is a first-come-first-served basis thing. If the main site won't implement them, that doesn't stop third parties from developing apps that use this name database, and attaching join/leave data signed by the users keys. Once I have a basic interface implemented, I am going to start casting about for people to work out a way to do this. I figure it'll more or less be a port of namecoin with membership entries added.

Just add a special character attached to one of the generous 5 tags associated with groups and people on the site can filter for groups as well as this automatically attaching to groups.

The Steemit platform is great, and the devs are tied up in their own specifics to do with the core of the system. There is no reason why it cannot have more layers added by other people. It only adds to the system as a whole and doesn't even have to be integrated anyway. Beyond such as I mentioned, having special tags to link posts into these proposed groups.

i had no idea anyone responded to my comment. How are we supposed to have a conversation?

I you speak italian, welcome. We are about 4 people right now.
