More than 8 years later, TEPCO is still busy with trying to clean-up the nuclear waste from the Fukushima disaster. Residents have started moving back to the area and various reports have insisted that there doesn't need to be any fear or worry over visiting the region or consuming goods from the area as well.

Waste from the nuclear disaster has been found washed-up in various regions, including California, British Columbia, and Alaska.

In all circumstances however, officials have reiterated that there isn't any concern to raise because the levels of radiation that have allegedly been found are too low to pose any health risk.

Prepping For The Future

The government has recently called for coastal municipalities in the Fukushima region, at least 10 of them, to create hazard maps and to review evacuation routes by 2020, as it's been estimated that a future mega earthquake could devastate the area much worse than it's already suffered.

Japan has been considered to be the most prepared country in the world for a tsunami.

They have earthquake preparedness that's seen to be better than any other and it's estimated that this preparedness has helped them to save thousands of lives as a result.

Not only did the incident impact the lives of thousands immediately who lost their lives, but there were more who also sacrificed their future to help with the clean-up, and there were thousands who had to evacuate.

Among those who came to help were sailors from the United States who had been sent to the region on a humanitarian mission to bring supplies and aid following the disaster. Some of those sailors have since put together a class-action lawsuit over the consequences of being exposed to that radiation while on that mission, some claim that they now have cancer or suffer from other physical abnormalities as a result. However, a judge has recently dismissed two of those class action lawsuits.

People who evacuated after the earthquake and tsunami disaster are now flowing back to the region.

Soon, the government is expected to be lifting the evacuation order for part of the town that hosts the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant, this will be the first time that it's been partially lifted. Others have already started moving back to the regions that have had their evacuation orders lifted, as well as those who left even though they never received an official order to leave.

Despite the amount of time, resources, and effort, that's already been spent on the clean-up, it's reported that they still don't have control of the situation. And contaminated groundwater has been flowing into the ocean for years now.

“Space isn’t a big issue at this point in time, but five or 10 years from now, after we’ve started removing the melted fuel debris, we’re going to need facilities to store and preserve it,” -- Akira Ono, president of Fukushima No. 1 Decontamination and Decommissioning Engineering Co

TEPCO is currently said to be waiting on advice from the government on how to move forward, they're allegedly considering a variety of disposal methods, these include injecting contaminated water into deep pockets in the earth, evaporating it, or just releasing it into the ocean.

Billions has already been spent on cleaning up after this disaster and it's expected that they are still going to need to spend billions more overall. Unfortunately, they are still a long way off from having the issue under control and taken care of.

@doitvoluntarily it is good to see people return, I really hope that the levels are low and that the alerts of a mega earthquake are just that, an alert and they never have to evacuate from their homes again. Thank you very much dear friend for sharing this news

And there are still people telling us how good nuclear energy is just because they don't emit CO2 but keep ignoring the million other life threathening issues.
