You are not the only bidder. You also placed a very large aggressive bid. It is not a matter of liking your contribution, it is how many other bidders are in the same window and how much they bid. The "vote calculator" is only good for the moment you do it, other votes after you will affect your vote.
Most of the time our vote is profitable right off the bat, but we also have a PreVote club that gives additional votes, daily curation digest, and author of the day where we give out $100-150 trail vote every few days. As well as some new community initiatives we are starting.
It's a promotion tool, you could spend $45 using Steemit's "Promote" button and get $0 upvote and not even show up on the promoted page until page 4. We try hard to be transparent and honest and provide the best service we can but it comes down to what everyone bids and how many people are bidding.
That being said, I have to ask, why do you think your post with a children's maze is worth $45? Steemit is far more than just posting with the least amount of effort and trying to make $50+ a post. I'm going to guess you didn't create the puzzle, and you didn't source it either. Looking at your history, articles like the one below are 100% plagiarised.
