Puppets in the community Update #21

Before beginning this publication I must highlight some health problems that have made it impossible for me to maintain constancy in the promotion of the second campaign to raise funds for the puppet project in the community, I apologize for the delay, and maintain my deepest commitment to the development of this wonderful cultural project that understands the needs that exist in the popular sectors of Venezuela.

I will dedicate this publication to the beginning of the repair of one of my puppets, it is a puppet of thread with command in simple cross, the character is an adaptation of the devils of yare, one of the most representative cultural traditions with me. 400 of existence in the coastal towns of the Venezuelan Caribbean.

This puppet was made about 9 years ago, conceived to be used in puppet shows has accompanied me in many cultural activities, due to some personal problems the puppet was practically useless, now I have some time to repair and restore damaged pieces, among the materials I used in the beginning we have recycled broomsticks, recycled newspaper, and some materials that eventually wear out, such as paint, wire and nylon threads to give life to the puppet.

I would love to make a workshop of thread puppets but the price of the workshop would increase notably, I will study well the possibilities of developing a similar workshop for the third campaign. At the moment I will only show the restoration process.

To contextualize a little as is the beginning of the factory, everything begins with the selection of materials such as broomsticks, pine boards that are used for packaging refrigerators, kitchens and washing machines, newspaper and clay, these materials are essential for the manufacture of the body of the puppet and head, before starting the manufacture proceeds to make a sketch with the fundamental characteristics that will possess the doll as well as possible movements that may have.

The manufacture of an articulated thread puppet of this type can take up to 1 month due to the different tasks to be performed before assembling, the pieces are measured proportionally depending on the height of the person.

In this case I am doing a restoration of my puppet of life and obviously it will take less time to readjust, paint and repair the parts worn by use or even replace completely damaged parts.

I will continue to report on the status of the repair of the puppet with which I intend to perform in the capital of my country, Venezuela.
