I continue the #fungifriday from @ewkaw. These are photos of unknown mushrooms on a hornbeam that fell to the ground. This is definitely one of the types of Fomitopsis, but I do not know exactly.

Mushrooms typically grow on dead wood or on some other matter that is rotting. The author examines a mushroom growing on an old pruning scar. Mushrooms growing on the ground at the base of a tree or even on the tree itself may be an indication of serious problems in the roots or in the trunk
