Editing a photo can be as simple as uploading a photo to an online app for an instant fun look. Other times it can take more time in PhotoShop or in an online apps that allows for adjustments and artistic creativity.
I made time today to learn how to apply layers while still allowing control of the settings.
I began by taking a photo of Abbey and then I removed the color - black and white with a lot of white so that the effects would impact the white space more predominantly.

For the edits, I used Lightroom, Deep Dream Generator and LunaPic.
I found Deep Dream Generator to be too timely - one photo can take 10 minutes for the style to be applied and if I didn't like the outcome I would have to start over tweaking the settings —they don't offer a preview pane before submitting the photo.
LunaPic is not too bad. It allows for some adjustments and creative freedom.
Photoshop or Photoshop Elements will be my go to for future edits. These programs have more options and filters and layers but it can be overwhelming at times. I just have to watch a few more videos to familiarize myself with all this application has to offer.

There are some interesting effects out there. I never really played with filters, aside from a few in Google Snapseed and, of course, I used to play with Photoshop a lot. I still haven't found an easy way to pull off sepia, though. You can do it in split toning with Lightroom, but it's not exactly easy. Your "vintage filter" seems to do a decent job, though!

Haha, well anyway. Abby looks content, although maybe not too happy to be today's model! Nice composition, though, and great lighting for her poofy fur.
I never mind when you guys edit my photos....I always learn something. I love what you did with the smoothing out....sepia is hard to do because sometimes it ends up being too pink/reddish.
Lightroom is great for split tones too. I like how I can play with those settings as well.
The vintage filter I used was a layer not a filter....ugh...I need to change that now. I got my words mixed up. So there was a texture on the layer as well.

But my eyes just like your original photos. By the way, for apps editing, usually I used "VSCO" from my phone and Photoshop from my laptop.
I never use my phone for photos. I take the worst ones with it - I don't know why they don't work out, but they don't. That's okay. I'm still learning PhotoShop.
Yeah, I guess the phone is not for producing professional photos. I usually use editing on my phone only for personal photos or when I'm in need of a sudden because editing on the phone is quite simple

I just love the original photo. But the one without color is making Abbey's eyes so bright. Although I don't know why she seems so sad. I guess because she had to stay still. 😄 At least our dog would be sad if he couldn't move all the time.
You think she looks sad? I just looked again, and I can see why. But I know what she's doing. She was sniffing the fence behind her to check out our neighbor's dogs and I called her to attention and when I do she puts on that face.....lol. Or she'll whip her head back as if she's laughing.

I have Photoshop and can get around on it ok...however it is on the computers of my 2 kids and apparently that is all you can have...
I also use Gimp. It has layers and is free :)
I like free. :) I have the whole Adobe cloud thing on my iMac. It has slowed that machine down so much. I need to purchase more ram for it - you can on this one. Fun fact.
My laptop has more ram on it so I have LightRoom running on it. I haven't really played around too too much with PS. It has too many options and that usually means I get over whelmed. I like simple. Elements was easy to use and had some fun things on it as well. I'm not a professional photographer so I don't care too much, you know? I'm not selling my stuff.

Yes.....Abbey. The huggable teddy bear dog. When I go outside I always sit on the first stoop. Abbey will climb up beside me and nudge my arm so I'll put it over her shoulder and we sit. It's very calming to be honest. We just sit. And she stays until I move.
Even though the photos look like four different results, these are the steps I took to get to the last one. It was a lot of work fiddling around with the settings. I think I like her original photo and the one @fotosdenada did for me.
They are all interesting @countrygirl and we will all probably have different favourites. That is the fascinating thing about digital art. I suppose the downside is.........the time factor. But it is very satisfying producing very unique results.
It's fun to play with editing like this. Thanks for the tip on LunaPic, I'm playing with that one website right now. I agree with you about Deep Dream Generator, it does take too long. Maybe we can convince @trudeehunter to tell us what software she's been using?
No problem @keithboone My favourite one is Dreamscope (I think it is another version of Deep Dream Generator.......not sure) but as @countrygirl and @erikah have found, it is extremely slow and frustrating. I have written to them but they don't reply. I use Lunapic, Prisma, sometimes Photomania, Photo Effects/Fotor, and Be Funky has a few but haven't found them to be that great. The good thing is.......they are all free. Sometimes I will use an image I have already applied a digital effect to, and apply another effect over that with interesting results. Trial and error and saving the ones you like the best. I'm really glad to know you guys are experimenting with digital art as I find it very rewarding........not to mention creative.
