The average worker today stays at each of his or her jobs for 4.4 years, according to the most recent available data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, but the expected tenure of the workforce's youngest employees is about half that. This is according to Google and the Bureau of Labor statistics. That does seem about right for the company I work at, but we just had our longest Employee, besides me retire today. 13 years, he beat the record by 8 years....
We had a couple little things set up for him today, and I made sure everyone was going to come by the job he was on, and we would have a cake and stuff. But at 6 am I get a text that he was not going to come in, and just go out a day early.... Well I guess I will just keep the six pack we had bought him, and the cake was pretty good too. Just funny that he was so done with working that one day was too much.
I have been working as a teacher for 15 years and at the same school for 10 years so o guess I have the avg beat as well. Sometimes retirement seems so far away. It was nice if you to organize a little send off for him. It’s too bad he missed out.
Ya, I have been at the same job for 18 years, and it is nice to have consistence, but sometimes you need a break. Good thing we have only been with steemit for 9 months. HAHA. Are you guys striking over there?
No striking right now thank goodness. We occasionally have our contract issues but strikes are rare. More of a work to rule type action is common here.
A lot of time in a job, maybe he liked it. The bad thing was that the celebration and the farewell cake were lost. The next coworker who retires will have to tell him beforehand that he does not miss his farewell hahaha.
O the cake was eaten, and it was just funny. Now I have to meet him to get all the tools back.
very sweet thank you for sharing
You have added a memory to chapter of his life. That's a wonderful thing you have done.
Interesante post ,saludos.
Thats been a long time, 13 years of working. I am sure he was already used to the routine
Haha good post,, @bigram13 nice to meet you
This post wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be.
I've been at my job currently for 3 years now and I plan on being there for some time.
Anyway,
Happy last day at work.
Or nah if he didn't show up.
Congrats to your friend, i wonder what life is after such years of work and retiring. Wish him strength
I can understand that, sometimes people may dislike the farewell crap as well.
Strange not to come in on the last day for a bit of send off, especially after 13 long years... Ah well, You're gain with the six pack and cake! ;o)
OMG one more day after 13 years and he was like no way LOL! Good story. Following
