This Should Worry All Of Us
I am personally no big fan of Alex Jones and I have never been.
If you are not clued up with what is going on let me fill you in, so on Monday Facebook, Apple, YouTube and Spotify all decided to ban Alex Jones from their platforms, and their reasoning was that he violated their hate speech terms. This was what someone from Facebook said, “More content from the same pages has been reported to us – upon review, we have taken it down for glorifying violence, which violates our graphic violence policy, and using dehumanizing language to describe people who are transgender, Muslims and immigrants, which violates our hate speech policies.” They did not specify what exactly he said or exactly was shown, only that other people didn't like it. Did he refer to illegal immigrants as illegal, because that is apparently not allowed to be said anymore, did he refer to the religion of Islam as not a religion of peace, because that too is considered hate speech these days.
"People who believe in freedom of expression have spent several centuries fighting against censorship, in whatever form. We have to be certain the 'Net' doesn't become the site for technological book burning." - John Ralston Saul
I don't like Alex Jones very much, but I don't believe anyone should be censored for sharing their opinions. These kinds of bans and censorship only seems to be happening to those who appose this collective ideology. We see outright racist articles against white people, sexist hashtags against men all over twitter, persecution of Christians, this is the socially accepted narrative that the left spew each and every day, but somehow this is not considered hate. I watched a video of a conservative black women, Candace Owens being chased out of a restaurant and being called a white supremacist, by leftist activists yesterday. The same side was doing that not so long ago, when they didn't want people of a certain colour is places. How will history remember these people when we look back 50 years from now? This is the same mentality of indoctrinated people who were calling for people to be hanged because of the colour of their skin.
We need to defend the rights of even those who we do not agree with.
"Censorship is the tool of those who have the need to hide actualities from themselves and from others. Their fear is only their inability to face what is real, and I can't vent any anger against them; I only feel this appalling sadness. Somewhere in their upbringing, they were shielded against the total facts of our existence." - Charles Bukowski

I feel like I have the right to form an "INFORMED" opinion. That means that I have the right to hear all points of view and to make up my mind trough critical thinking and my own beliefs. I don't care how crazy or offside the information is, I have the right to include it in my decision making. Who is anyone to say that as a consumer, I can only view certain opinions or points of view in content? This is not only censorship of the content but also theft of my ability to acquire intellectual grounds for the basis of my own opinion.
Just fall in line, you mindless zombies. We will tell you what is good for you. Pfft!!!!
I think Alex Jones is a turd in the punch bowl. That doesn't mean he doesn't have a right to his opinions and to express them.
I think at times he could have been censored for 'inflammatory speech' which is not constitutionally protected here. But he violated the 'terms of service'? On three non connected networks at once? Puh leeze.
hahahaha "turd in a punch bowl" hilarious
Why do you think they chose now to enact this simultaneously?
True, not an Alex Jones fan, but when 3 platforms ban him on the same day it is censorship. How long has he been on these sites? And just now they decide to remove him?
Yeah it's weird that they all suddenly chose now to do it.
oooohhh the hypocrisy. You only have freedom of speech if we deem it so....That is what it seems like these days. If it isn't in line with the mainstream rhetoric, then you are ousted. Or on some bandwagon train leading to some political agenda. Let's look at those major outlets - Facebook, Apple, YouTube. The major players are very left leaning, I think. I could be wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if in the near future, if we say the name Jesus on one of those platforms, we get banned for it. I hope it never comes to that, but wouldn't be surprised. As always great article, Mork. :)
I try to observe the macro and the micro on topics. You can not agree one iota on any of Jones's micro, but this consorted effort proves him right on the Macro, and the macro is what history does best at recording. Tyranny is tyranny. A broken clock is right twice a day, but what do you do with a coo-coo that is right half of the time? How would AJ be handled on a platform like Steemit? Would he be ignored, down-voted, made a whale? However he would be treated, he would not be censored, but worse yet, he would never be banned.
So, you agree with him being banned from the platforms?
No, I don't agree on banning him. But with spaces like Steemit, the concept of what is happening on Web 2 social media with him and others should empower these new platforms to drive the point home as to why Web 3 protocols are the superior platforms for expression.
Thought police in action.
No opinion should be censored, plus it's just fuel for the fire, this is basicly validating his conspiracys on some levels and defiantly is the new aged form of book burning.
He's already back on youtube using "fan accounts". It's going to be like playing wack a mole. However, the fact that everyone colluded with each other to censor an opposing view is a very serious problem that I think is going to get much worse if left unchecked.
