My business partner and I had an online platform that allowed fans of bands to trade in their old cell phones, and a lot of other electronic devices in for band merch, autographs, tickets, etc.
We wanted to take our business out on the road, so we start asking bands if there are any tours available for us to come out on to set up a booth and promote our business.
Our first tour ended up being a 5 day Texas tour with a metal band called Upon A Burning Body.
The tour was so short, we decided to take my business partners car and get hotels after the shows.
We bring about 25 rolled up blunts on tour to hopefully keep us through, or until we can find some more from someone at a show.
First show went down, we leave to head to the hotel and the guitarist from the band texts us and says "hey guys. Watch out for the checkpoint tonight."
We're from Missouri, so when someone says checkpoint, we think of a DWI checkpoint, and not border patrol, which is what he was referring to.
So we get to the hotel, don't even think twice about it, and go to sleep.
We wake up the next morning and head out around 8am to get to the next date.
A little into the drive, I pull out a blunt from a swisher package. Almost literally mid spark, I look up and see a huge thing in the middle of the highway that looks like a huge toll booth, but it's not a toll booth at all...it's a border checkpoint.
I immediately freak out, put the blunt back in the package and put that package with 2 blunts in it under the back floor mat. All of the other blunts at this point were in a bag on top of the floor mat behind the passenger seat.
The car still reeked of weed from the blunts we smoked the day/night before, we've never been in this position before and the only thing I can possibly think is, "I'm going to jail."
We start to pull up to the checkpoint and the dogs are legitimately trying to jump in the car because they were alerting to officers we had drugs on us.
The officer asks "sir, do you guys have drugs on you? The dogs are alerting." We just tell the truth and say "yes. We have some weed."
They tell us to pull up and pull over to the search station.
We drive up and park. They ask us to get out of the car and sit down in chairs under their building as they searched the car.
They asked why we were in Texas, and we told them what was going on, who we were on tour with, and that all we had was the pre rolled blunts on us.
They ask for our ID's, my friend had his but mine was somewhere in the car, and the car was so filled and trashed, there was no way I could even get to it, so they just write my info down on some paper.
About 5 minutes into the search, one officer comes over and asks my friend to go show them where the blunts are because they can't find them. He points to the blunt packages in the backseat, and the officers finally see them and tell him to come back and sit down.
Give it another 5 minutes, the officer comes back, gives my friend his ID back and tells us that the drugs have been destroyed, and we are free to go, but if we are ever caught in Texas with so much as a seed, we're going straight to jail.
We didn't care. We were just happy to be leaving and continuing on the tour.
We start driving and being disappointed we just lost the entire tours worth of weed, my friend reaches back to grab his Powerade bottle....
The border patrol officers decided to break up each blunt in half, put them inside the half full Powerade bottle, and leave the Powerade bottle IN THE BACKSEAT OF THE CAR!
After that, I decide to reach under the floor mat in the backseat and what do I feel....one swisher package left with 2 blunts still in it that I put there as we rolled into the checkpoint.
What did we do?
We spark up a blunt, and roll into Walmart a few miles later. We bought a strainer. When we got to the hotel before the show, we strained out the blunts from the Powerade. The blunt wraps and weed were pretty stuck together, so we decided to just let it all dry, and come back after the show to see if it was smokeable.
We got back to the hotel after the show and it wasn't quite dry, so we used a blow dryer and let it sit over night. The next day, we began re rolling it into new blunts and let's just say....they tasted like Powerade flavored blunts but still did the job plenty good.
I wouldn't recommend rolling through border patrol with weed but it doesn't seem like they're too worried about you getting your smoke on.
