A Correction Officer (C.O.) who works at a minimum security prison where inmates are placed for non-violent crimes, decides to get up one morning and go for a ride on his day off.
He shows up behind the scenes of a crew site where an on-duty correctional officer brought the inmates to do maintenance and lawn work at another agency.
The inmates knew the off-duty C.O. well and enjoyed his mischievous personality.
While the on-duty C.O. takes a quick bathroom break, he leaves the maintenance man to keep an eye on the inmates.
The off-duty C.O. comes out from around the corner amd gives a quick wink to the known maintenance man jingling some keys and gets into the prison van with a spare set of van keys and tells the inmates to get into the van. The C.O. lays low in the back of the van and has one of the inmates get into the Driver's seat.
As the on duty C.O. comes back out to check on the inmates, he sees the van pulling off with all the inmates on the van waving out the windows and smiling as they continually circle the parking lot.
The C.O. darts off chasing the van, running faster than he probably has ran in a long time.
Realizing he has his radio by his side, he stops and pulls it out for assistance.
The van stops and out jumps the C.O. laughing hysterically so much he can barely talk as the inmates exit the van also laughing in tears.
This was one of the many pranks pulled by my father, a loving man, kind hearted, fun loving and well known prankster.
Smiles come naturally when stories are told of the many memories he left behind. This was one of many!
