What is a Doppelganger
In simple terms, a doppelganger is a look alike. Some believe a doppelganger is another real living person, others feel there is a bit more paranormal aspect to it; such as a ghost, or a being from an alternate plane.
The idea of the doppelganger is not new. The origin of the word dates back to late 1700's - a German writer Johaan Paul Richter coined the word. source As I said, above, doppelganger can be someone who is alive, and just happens to look like you, or it could be someone dead, who has an eerily similar look.
Below is an example of a normal celebrity doppelganger, and a ghostly celebrity doppelganger. If you have never heard of the Nicolas Cage vampire myth, you're in for a treat...
On the left Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World, Black Mirror) On the right Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark 30, Interstellar) - I don't know what you think, but they look pretty damn similar to me.
Supposedly Nicolas Cage is a civil war era vampire. This is a man that looks identical to the actor, and just happened to be alive in the mid 1800s.

I think its related to the six degrees of separation rule. If so many people are separated within six degrees, consider how many people have had sex with one-another in that six degrees. :)
Eventually the DNA pool gets shared enough, there is a piece of everyone in each other... you end up with dopplegangers. :)
