Restoring an old dresser

in #furniture7 years ago (edited)

This is not a piece that I found at the flea market downstairs, it's a dresser I've been carrying with me through the last 3 moves and with the records on the wall behind it, it looked a little bit off in beige.

Original picture doesn't show the entire dresser because I didn't think I would need to chronicle my work but it was all that color from top to bottom

My boss had talked to me about chalk paint when I mentioned what I was planning to do and I did some research online and decided to give it a try. But first the gold trim had to be done

I was genuinely impressed with the paint. No sanding required, just wash the area with soap and water and apply. Dries in no time too!

I could have had all of it done in the space of 3 evenings but some things came up and I had to put it aside for a while.

Still, it is my everyday dresser so I needed it and had to look at it like this for about 3 weeks

This weekend however my schedule had freed up and I decided this was the time to do it. I finished the last 3 drawers on Friday. 2 coats of black and 1 coat of clear seal.

Saturday night, my original plans for going out got pushed back so I took the opportunity to apply the first coat of black and finally finished it up this morning.

Before the black paint is applied. I opted to do the 3 strips across the front of the dresser in gold to go with everything else and what a great idea that turned out to be

Good job!

I love it! One of my most favorite things is taking old pieces that I've had for a while and giving them a fresh new start. This fits in so well!
