At the World Government Summit in Dubai, our real-world Tony Stark, Elon Musk, was throwing around some big and important ideas about the future of humanity. Musk says that Universal Basic Income — or an economic idea where everyone gets a paycheck from the government to spend how they wish — is one of the only solutions to the rise of robotic automation.
retitle -- more people become slaves on basic income as robots take their jobs ......folks this is not a good thing
Automation has been taking jobs for hundreds of years and will continue to - it's how we, as a society, progress.
But why is it always necessary to progress? Automation will mainly help the rich. Plus, in the past automation produced more jobs, this time it won't produce enough
Well, under a capitalist system, automation or not benefits the rich anyway. And it's human nature to want to progress - necessity has nothing to do with it. You can try to stop progression (for example, during the dark ages) but eventually it will continue on. The only way to stop it is to wipe out humanity altogether.
Yes, this time we will be left with a net loss of jobs. That's why this time we need to rely on a new system such as UBI.
This isn't like the dark ages. The rich having all the power, and the mass having none is going to be terrible. Yes, it is already like that in some regards but the rich still need laboures, so we still have some influence. If a robot can do most jobs what will our use be? We will have nothing to offer, and will lose all our influence. We will be at the mercy of the rich. This isn't progress that will be positive.
I was using the dark ages as an example of how those in power tried to stop human progression and ultimately only delayed it.
Regardless if it's positive or negative, there's literally nothing we can do. There is no going back from where we are. We just have to push forward.
I personally believe we need to become a multi-planet species - that way there should be more work but the biggest thing we need to do is slow down our population growth.
Overall, theres no actual solution to this problem. UBI is an attempt at fixing it, but ultimately Earth will end up like that in the movie Elysium. It's morbid, but reality.
Yeah it's true. I'll personally try to get off the grid and away from society. I'm worried where it's headed
true -- what I don't see is where are the "new jobs"....
There won't be any "new jobs" this time around - that's why we need UBI or something similar or most of society will end up in poverty.
sad that we are not able to see this as well and do more....
Elon has purchased 10 of the largest robots in the world for automating Tessa production. So as the world used exponential technology for humans needs products and services,, the human labor requirements and hours will be dramatically reduce in every industry. UBI is the only approach that can with humans who do not work for income. Is this the best way to share resources?
Whether its the best or not, its really the only way. If we don't have UBI, then we will have mass poverty. Far into the future, money won't even be a thing because robots will be doing everything for us.
There is a right blend of concepts here. UBI is a piece of the solution. For those leading the creation and use exponential technology, they are going to be fine. The sharing model for exchange of resource and services is a must for communities to survive and work. This is the fastest growing part of the global economy today. Individuals must still contribute to participate and UBI could be a supplement for those living at the marginal levels.
It would be nice.
Otherwise we will see apocalyptic capitalism in full swing.
Robots have to help people not to take their jobs.
And all that remains for the people It's to eat juicy burgers for robots !
=]]]
True that. Smart man.
This will surely come undone. It should continue killing the USD at an accelerated rate with PM's and real assets going to the moon.
All depends on how the money for the UBI is generated
I think automation of most jobs is going to be terrible. You have big corporations controlling most production and services. How is this a good thing? It's just going to be rich vs poor, except the rich hold nearly all the cards. Imagine what happens if they get robotic soldiers or policemen, we can't compete against them. Automation only lets the rich save money. Yes, not having to work all the time would be good, but no work at all will suck. I just don't get why people are pushing for this
Well, whether it is a good or bad thing is irrelevant. It's inevitable that this will happen and thats why UBI has been such a hot topic of discussion lately.
It's always been rich vs poor, more so in the past when the middle class wasn't even a thing!
And I think people are pushing for it so we don't end up in a world like the movie Elysium!
yeah I think we are going to need a UBI. I still think it's going to be bad though. We are going to depend on the rich for most things, and we won't have a use.
