What is this revenue stream paid in monthly?
Ah well that is the thing, isn't it? Whatever currencies or assets players use to pay with, ultimately at least some of it needs to end up being cashed-out to "Planet Known As Earth" currency to pay the bandwidth and hosting and/or electricty bills involved in actually manifesting all of this on "The Planet Known As Earth".
It kind of makes sense how some games peg their prices in Planet Earth currencies, because otherwise you do keep running into the problem that if your in-game currencies or your crypto-currencies get their planet-earth prices dumped down super-low you run into problems cashing out enough planet-earth currency to pay the bills.
This problem exists even if you price stuff in super-popular cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin; when bitcoin is half-price to 1/3-price as is has been lately, if your prices are denominated in bitcoin you can have real problems.
However, if in the long run you have confidence in your chosen currency or currencies, maybe you can "weather the storm" of these periods when the planet-earth value of your chosen mideium of exchange is low. I guess we mostly just have to hope that we can do that!
Even with currencies many people think are "crappy" or "pathetic" might yet "work out" wth such an approach; lets take a look for example at one you have mentioned in your own posts, Tenebrix (TBX):
The per square mile monthly fees paid by Civilisations are paid to what is known out of game as General Hosting Corp and in-game as Galactic Holding Corp or Galactic Holdings Corp, in all cases its ticker is GHC. The total amount currently (as of the current hour, since interest is accounted / compounded hourly in planet-earth hours/timeline) is, expressed as TBX, 16127038.39737324 TBX.
Do you have 16127038.39737324 TBX handy?
The Brits of the planet known as B29 owe 3294928.70973010 TBX of that, do they have that much TBX lying around? How much would it cost them, in various currencies or assets, to get hold of that much TBX?
Luckily for those Brits, the same fee can be stated in terms of their own currency, the United Kingdom Britcoin (UKB), as 37422.07219965 UKB, which, it so happens, they can in fact afford.
So a lot depends not only upon the currency or asset you choose you express value in but also where you are going to go to get hold of that much of that particular currency or asset.
Right now a lot of assets and currencies can be grabbed at bargain prices at places such as FreiExchange or FreiXlite or even in the Stellar platform or maybe even on HORIZON. But will that last or are those "bargains" just temporary opportunities that maybe ought to be grabbed right now before they are gone?
