If you are a veteran gamer, it will surely admit that Shadow of the Colossus is one of the legendary titles in video game history. Not only classic, but also highly praised as the most artistic video game ever made for the Playstation 2 console.
After more than 12 years later, Sony Interactive Entertainment made a remake of the start (remake) for its PlayStation 4. Studio Bluepoint Games is commissioned to re-create all assets and strive to bring the Shadow of the Colossus to the Playstation 4 with modern graphics standards, taking advantage of today's higher resolution standards. It also implements a number of gameplay changes that are made to be smoother. And the end result is one of the best remakes ever released. But amid the onslaught of quality games this February, such as Monster Hunter or Dragon Ball Fighter Z, will this game meet Millenial gamer expectations and become Game of the Year (GOTY) 2018? Given that Shadow of the Colussus only provides a simple game mode and it will take a long time to explore the world that can be considered quite quiet for the sake of 12 Colossi hunt, and no moving objects that can be invited to interact. Here's a review from @black.panther
David vs Goliath fight
The concept of the story of the creator Fumita Ueda is actually very simple, but the story is very classic and has art in terms of game. Across the treacherous chasm to the barren wilderness, a soldier named Wander scours every deserted area to a forbidden land, following the legend's mandate that speaks of the power to revive the dead.
The goal is to revive a girl named Mono, but Wander must prove himself by killing 16 Colossi using an ancient sword. This ancient sword has the ability to track every location of the Colossi by reflecting sunlight in the direction corresponding to precise accuracy.
However, the ancient sword is only useful if Wander stands in direct sunlight. Another Wander weapon is his bow and an infinite supply of arrows. While the Colossi is a mythological creature with a super great form that has a frightening power.
Wander will also be accompanied by a favorite horse named Argo. This wander figure really reminds the 'gamer' to the Link character from the Legend of Zelda.
Armed with only swords, bows, and horseback riding, Shadow of the Colossus is basically a battle of David and Goliath. Wander's character is small but agile enough to dodge. The key to defeating this amazing Colossi is to simply observe their movements and behavior, before approaching then slowly climbing, through and through their bodies to inculcate your character's sword into the luminous point of the luminous Colossi.
Sounds may be easy, but the reality is not. Each Colossi has two different weak point locations, where you must hold tightly to the Colossi with limited stamina. The risk Wander will fall from a height, trampled Colossi to slip due to lack of stamina. All of these things will cause the Wander to lose his life and have to start over.
Graphs Are Twice As Good As Ps2 Versions
In the event E3 2017, Yoshida revealed that Shadow of the Colossus for PlayStation 4 is really a complete Remake, not "Remastered". All the game content is the same as the original, but all its assets are regenerated. All of the graphics textures are greatly maximized following the higher resolution standards currently.
The stone texture looks photorealistic, the lighting is amazing, and the appearance of the feathers on Colossi's incredible body. The level of detail is so high, Sony even mentions Shrine of Worship itself more than double the detail on the PS2.
If you look at the graphical comparison here seen that PS4 Pro version that looks very good.
For 'gamers' who play on the PS4 Pro console, Shadow of the Colossus will give you two choices. Cinematic mode will make this game at full 4K resolution when targeting 30fps. As well as Performance Mode that will make this game in 1080p but with a fine frame rate 60fps.
Playing Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 Pro, it's a pleasure to explore to see how it changes from a visual point of view, even if you've played the previous version on PS2. Despite the amazing graphical updates, however, the game's mood remains on guard.
Classic but Classy
One of the impressive things is how similar gameplay feels to the original on PS2. You must look for the Colossi with a magical ancient sword that will reveal their location, because the Colossi will not step outside and let you attack him for granted.
To get started, grasp your sword in the air by pressing the circle button. Move the cursor that appears around until all reflection shadows focus into a single stream of light. Here's the direction you want to enter to find the Colossi. This can only be done in the sun. If you are in a hilly area, then you are alone.
To lower the spirit of Colossus, you must find the weak point. Your ancient sword will tell you the location of these weak spots if you hold them near Colossus, just as you track them down. The weak point will glow blue when you carry a sword nearby or reflect light above it. This is the only place you can do to do significant damage and they must be defeated with the sword.
Unlike other games, Shadow of the Colossus has no side quest or NPC. For the entire quest, only you, your horse, and your sixteen giants are to be defeated. Between you and Colossi are rolling fields, endless deserts, lush forests and glittering lakes.
No other monsters, no moving objects. Essentially you are totally alone on this journey, and the only other living thing in the region is your target.
Photo Created Addiction Mode
The Shadow of the Colossus version of the remake on the PS4 is added to the "Photo Mode" menu, which is not the original feature in this game, but is greatly welcomed as it captures every moment with the impressive visual details present in this game. Maybe "gamers" will often spend more time with Photo Mode to find beautiful photos and find the best to show off.
The thing that makes Photo Mode stand out is its feature strength and flexibility. You can create your own photos and edit them as you wish when action scenes in the game are in progress. You can do color filters, balance shadows, color tone settings, reduce lighting levels to make them into sketches. More great you can rotate the camera 90 degrees from any side, even can zoom in and zoom out to find the best position.
My Opinion
For the year 2018, Shadow of the Colossus remake version for Playstation 4 is definitely a favorite author and must be collected. Especially for old gamers who have previously played PS2 version.
It's a stunning work of classic Team ICO that's polished with the power of artful graphics with the emotional gameplay that ever existed in video games.
A very good remake, sometimes beyond its visual prowess, game mechanisms and fighting with the Sixteenth Colossi sometimes seem a bit too simple and repetitive. In fact you can easily complete it in one day if you want to finish this game as soon as possible.
Shadow of the Colossus is an incredible adventure, worth playing again and again. This game is a beautiful reconstruction of a masterpiece. It's like the same song but with a different suit..
