- SPOILER ALERT *
The fifth and penultimate episode of the eighth season of Game of Thrones was great, but with a script that shared opinions.
In the battle, some important deaths occurred. I have listed them here:
Lord Varys:
The same one dies at the beginning of the episode, condemned to death by treason by Daenery, after discovering that it was planning its fall and the ascent of Jon for the Iron Throne.
Euron Greyjoy
After his fleet decimated by Daenerys, Euron escapes to a secluded beach and ends up finding Jaime Lannister, who, in turn, was trying to enter the Red Keep.
The two enter into a fierce battle, where Jaime comes out victorious, letting Euron bleed to death.
Qyburn
The Queen's Hand is killed by The Mountain on the steps of the Red Keep shortly after finding The Hound. When attempting to give orders to him, he is pushed against the wall and his head is crushed.
The Hound and The Mountain
Sandor and Gregor Clegane enters a deadly fight on the staircase of the Red Keep. Sandor, was filled with revenge while his brother, Gregor, looked more like an automatic marionette, which did not take away all the fierceness and brilliance of the combat that to me was one of the highlights of the episodes.
Cersei and Jaime Lannister
Full of confidence, the Queen believes she can win from Daenerys. Throughout the episode, she realizes that every effort was in vain and flees with Qyburn and The Mountain to the lower parts of the castle. After being abandoned by The Mountain, she meets Jaime. The two escape to the basements of the castle, where there is an exit to the beaches (where Jaime killed Euron Greyjoy). However, when they arrive, they are faced with a collapse in the exits. When they see their end, the two embrace and conform to their end.
The two die the moment the castle collapses.
Golden Company and Harry Strickland
Many expectations were raised about these mercenaries who went to Port Royal to balance the battle against the Dragon Queen. However, we have seen that they are not of great help against a dragon and die early in the battle.
Maybe if they had elephants, they could run away on their backs.
The sanity of Daenerys
What divided many opinions was Daenerys' decision to set the whole city on fire, even after the ringing of the bells, which represented the surrender of the Porto Real army, seemed to be greatly altered.
Many innocents
Before the confrontation, it was established that the attack would be interrupted after the ringing of the bells, which happens with a certain speed.
But Daenerys feels the whole city burned, including thousands of innocent people, the ones she vowed to protect and free from tyranny.
